Someone who fancies an extra £10,000 or an extra year on their deal? Leeds are a bigger club than Warrington, with a bigger history etc. I doubt NRL players coming over particularly look at the ladder, they aren't as obsessed with trophies and success as we are over here. Otherwise, why would the like of Luke Patten sign for Salford or why would anyone join Bradford Bulls?
I'm not suggesting he is joining Leeds, but he/his agent might be using it to wring the best possible deal out of Warrington?

I wouldn't say Leeds have a higher profile than Warrington in Australia. After all the Australians take more note of the Challenge Cup then the Super League and both Langer and Johns have played for us.
Much as it pains me to say it, Wigan have far and away the biggest reputation worldwide.
And with regard to money, they are working to the same salary cap as we are.

Obviously not what we needed though as we signed Laffranchi months before Waterhouse had made his decision. We certainly don't need another backrower and I think we've got Laffranchi playing prop or TP playing prop and Laffranchi at 13.

So he's signed then. Surely the club would have dismissed the rumours if we weren't after him and label it as 'rubbish'. Seems to me that we've signed him and are looking for a date to annouce it.

| It may well be the case that the club are waiting to announce the departures of players before naming the new. I remember The Lord Tony Smith was not too happy last year when Hodgson was announced early on in the season.

No just about every media outlet on the planet is reporting that we have signed him - but the Wolves are saying it is purely speculation.
That is what they said when I queried reports of the club signing Monaghan and after reporting it as speculation, they released it as fact within 24 hours.

| Just threw TW into google and few hits came up, one via twitter has Waterhouse clearly stating to oz press that he is only moving due to Cap issues and really wants to end his career at the Panthers.
If this is the case do we really want a player who is clearly coming for the money and not the fact he wants to play for the wire????

| The article says nowhere that he has had a desire to play in England and throughout he states returning to Oz and hopefully Panthers. Yeah I understand that most overseas players usually want to end their palying careers where they started but at least give show a little bit of respect to our game!!

| Basically he can't stay at Penrith due to salary cap issues, and he could never see himself lining up against them, therefore, the solution is to come to SL.

| He's stated that he doesn't want to have to play against the Panthers in his career, so that means his options are limited to English clubs. Sure, he'd rather stay with the Panthers but it doesn't look like that will work out so presumably we're second choice.

Yeah accepted, but surely his agent would of had a word to say give it the "think SL is great" blah blah blah.
Looking at footage on you tube yeah looks a great player and "if" he is going to be wearing the P&B I hope he give it his all and not just a meal ticket, awaiting Panthers to come calling, as it appears he will take up a big chunck of the cap

| But don't get cut up about his mercenary attitude people, if anything it's good that he's honest. IMO there is nothing worse than when a player signs for a club 10,000 miles away and then professes their eternal support for the club and how they used to get up at 4am to watch [Insert name of first club legend found on Google here and can't wait to play in front of the passionate supporters at [Insert name of ground here. The vast majority of NRL players come for one or more of the following reasons:
1 - Financial. They can earn more or over a longer period than they can in the NRL
2 - Disciplinary. An awful lot of imports have made their NRL position untennable due to their behaviour
3 - Escapism. A lot of players get into the NRL system young and have never seen the world. I remember reading about how Jason Hooper had got really excited when Saints went over a stream on the way to Wembley, thinking it was the Thames and trying to take a picture of it. A paid vacation around Europe with a safe ex-pat community on tap is an attractive way to finish a career.
Pretty much all the players in SL are mercenaries. The likes of Brett Hodgson and Matt King included. There are only a few rare examples of people who come over for rugby reasons, and they are usually young players who have failed to capitalise on an NRL place.

I cant think of many players in the Warrington squad who would have grown up wanting to play for Wire.
Hodgson, King, Monaghans, Morley etc.... have pretty much all signed with us for the money or longer contracts.
Im more interested in him trying hard and earning his pay.

| In the Sun today, it says we are close to clinching the deal for Stefan Ratchford, and we also have 'run the rule' over Rangi Chase aswell.
Good Stuff.

| For the way Ratchford played on Sunday, I wouldn't have him a million miles near the club....bone idle
As for Chase...great player, but we allready have an elusive pacy half-back for the next x years, we need a Briers 'wily old fox' replacement
