Sums my drive home to a tee. Bang on. Its depressing how the season has ended. No idea at all, no attack, no idea, no fluency, completely disjointed. The cup win has papered over cracks and kept Price in the job, so unfortunately, itl be same again next year im afraid.

It wouldn't, i agree. The whole attitude of the club is wrong. Wigan wouldn't stand for a season like this, and there would be changes on the back of it. The mentality of the club should be demanding we win everything on offer, especially being the biggest spenders in the league. To go out at this point of the season is pathetic, it really is. This accepting mediocrity was evident last night. Some bloke said to me (who i respect, and is very knowledgeable about the game) said, 'well at least we won one of the major trophy's'. For me, that there is all thats wrong with the club!! I want the big one, the GF, the championship!! No matter how much we don't like the format of how its achieved, thats what you have to do to win it, at all costs!! As long a we just 'settle' the further away from winning it we will get. Singing, taking the out of our selves with the, even more now annoying, 'Always Our Year' chant, just breeds mediocrity. Its really starting to get on my wick now.
Its not just personnel changes we need, its the mentality of the club from top to bottom. We need a Shaun Wane character (if not actually Shaun Wane), someone who wont stand for it, will want to change the mentality at the club, only accept the best and more. Yeah Wigan didn't play attractive rugby, but it wasn't as boring as last night. They just executed perfectly when attacking.
For me, changes needed, but it wont happen!!

I can only remember Hull away which seemed like a decent win .
The rest have been really scrappy .
Our two performances of the year The semi and the final were like watching team with no flair win on emotion alone .

| Exactly Longbarn, nail on head. I think with the woeful attempt at the penalty last night and taking an AGE to take it that the players genuinely didn't want to progress or weren't bothered. Price needs to go, the captaincy could do with being taken from Hill as well, a mongrel leader of a prop is a necessity, the team also need some on-field brains from somewhere and hopefully J Clark gets homesick. Rabbitohs fans have been asking for him to go back along with Goodwin......I'd pay the air fare.

| Moran and Middleton did not build their respective empires with sloppy decision making, but they appear happy to float up and down the creek without a paddle when it comes to the Wire. Its time for them to man up and start wielding the axe. Sending scripture from our very own oracle Mr Longbarn wouldn't be out of place for me.

| at times they don't look like anyone knows what they are doing in attack....literally no clue. It's a squad full of mediocrity punctuated by some very very good players. Widdop will make a difference next year no doubt...but he can't play behind a lightweight, beaten pack.
They play a VERY conservative brand of rugby, no off-loading, very little open field running. It's all crash bang wallop down the middle... usually ending with a bang average kick in the air. The centres offer little if nothing at all to their wingers...who play like make weight forwards.
Patton is SHITE. Offers absolutely nothing at all when he has the ball in his hands. Nothing.
The cup win was a glorious, freak performance that will go down as one of our greatest wins. Current league form carried into next year will see us facing a relegation battle.

Thing is though....nothimg will change. The CEO pretty much said it would be a disaster if we went out of the playoffs esrly. Whether theres a change i doubt it. I hope some1 from the club reads this. Austin told me himself he does...so who knows

For me it would be naive to think someone from the club does not read these forums, tbh I’d be disappointed if they didn’t.

| Longbarn nails it.
Steve Price continuing into 2020 is a symptom of an underlying cultural issue at the club. Its why after having a decade of resources available and big money transfers were are as far away from winning SL as we were pre-2010.

...and there lays a huge problem
A former RL player suddenly becomes a hirer and firer for two rich men. It's not as if he came through the ranks at ICI or Unilever, earning his trade in Personal/HR, or being a captain of industry. No. He played full back for Salford.
We employ him, and 10 months later, we entrust him with getting us a coach. After a month, we eventually get an N4L failure, after a silence of 4 weeks, with fans left no communication.
(at the risk of making a sweeping statement) we employ a RL player, to run a multi million pound business. Apart from doing night school, it's not as if we"be got Sir John Harvey Jones, is it?
Our recruitment (with one or two exceptions) has stunk for years

I have touched on this point in the last couple of seasons, just what is Simon Moran’s motivation in being the owner of a RL club?
I never let a thread go as next year it would all be ok and go away so to speak.
Does he just want the prestige without the delivery?
Does he see Wires as an extension to or part of his entertainment empire rather than the rugby club we all identify with?
Is he bothered about results as long as owning the club is financially attractive to him in the bigger picture?

| I can probably only think of a handful of games this year that I’ve enjoyed and been entertained as a fan. More so the first half of the season then the second half of the season. We seemed to of gotten worse as an attacking threat & became void of ideas in creating tries, the closer we got towards the end of the season the more we struggled.
If the brake down the results of the 29 LEAGUE games only it makes for very poor reading.
First lot of 10 games: Won 8 Lost 2
Second lot of 10 games: Won 6 Lost 4
Third lot of 9 games: Won 2 Lost 7
Followed by another defeat last night. Form and momentum into the playoffs counts for a hell of a lot & we had zero of that. See Salford tonight... They are riding the wave well this year, gained momentum over the course of the season and improved as a team gradually, they deserve to be in the mix it will be great as a neutral fan to see them get to OT.

| Yeah I’m glad it’s done and dusted.
Would rather go out to Cas last night than lose to Wigan or Saints further down the line and will take the CC win big time after an average SL season with really only two top performances (Hull away and Wigan at Magic)

| One thing that Tony Smith understood and tried to impress on his teams...this is an entertainment business..and fans pay to be entertained. The team has failed to entertain us too many times this season...regardless of the result.
The best teams I have seen in Primrose and blue HAVE been entertaining to watch..win, lose or draw. They played an attractive brand of entertaining Rugby, trying to win through skill and flair.
This team tries to win through attrition and defence. NOT entertaining. It's no surprise that the attendance figure for last nights game was so low.

| To some extent but the last few Smith seasons weren’t great. Multiple scoots from dummy half. Last season was more entertaining than the latter Smith years. This season is a new low in the 10 or so years I’ve been watching.
