Without wishing to sound ridiculously pedantic, Tony Smith didn't bring any of those players in. Furner, McKenna and Dunemann (and Gary Connolly FWIW) were brought in under Daryl Powell's reign in another (failed) attempt on winning the league. Whilst Tony Smith used them very well in that first title winning season, they had all had a very positive influence on the side already in the run to the cup final, and their influence on young players around them throughout that 2003 season. So whilst Tony Smith may have used them in a particular way, Daryll Powell had already done that, so I wouldn't really put that down to any Smith "Masterstroke"

Marcus Bai was announced as a Leeds signing around the same time as Tony Smith, both joining the following season, so that probably had more to do with Gary Hetherington spotting a player coming out of contract and signing him up

get your facts right.

I don't think its that people are saying you are paying your players absolutely high wages, just you have a lot of people in your squad who came to you with big reputations (Morley, Carvell, King, Monahan sp?, Myler, Atkins) and therefore could have got big money at other clubs. Fair play to you in that you've obviously cracked how to split the cap up better than other clubs.

I think something people sometimes forget (Wigan fans in particular) is that you also have a few players who came at the low point of there career and be on peanuts like Higham, Mathers and Solomona who maybe balance it out a bit.

James Roby got MOS in a season where he never played more than half a game. When you look at Kireon Cunningham who has never won the award it demeans it somewhat IMO.
