Apologies for maintaining this off thread orientation. But I feel compelled to comment on the amount of people who defend partners/ spouses/relatives who teach.

Rather confusing.

Do you think they are defending them, or just commenting from a knowledgeable perspective?

I'd defend you monkeyman, to the hilt. I won't have a bad word said about my getdownmonkeyman.

i feel compelled to defend teachers simply because they do a very difficult job very well.the people on here having a pop at them do so without any knowledge whatsoever of how hard they work and how many hours they put in.
there are plenty of perks to a teachers job but these are far outweighed by how demanding a career it is.
i went in to my wifes school last year and did a talk to a group of 5th years regarding some coursework,i know that i couldn't get up there and do this "easy" job day in day out.

I wouldn't even entertain teaching. Horrendously frustrating, with very little sense of reward I would imagine in today's education system.

However, I will temper that by stating that the job is not without it perks. Working outside contracted hours should not be cited as going beyond the call of duty, it happens every day in myriad of vocations.

Quite, but for some reason, some of the posters on this thread seem to think teachers work from 9 till 3 for about 9 months of the year. That constant running down of such a valuable profession is what annoys me.

I think gaining a sense of reward is down to individual perspective. My wife had an affluent upbringing but much prefers working in schools that are in deprived areas, a school in Wythenshawe of all placed had been her most rewarding role to date. I do agree about the current system though, it's highly unbalanced.

On another, completely separate topic, I wouldn't be surprised to see a return to the grammar school system. Or something very similar.

think they should spend a little more time on driving in snow during their training though.

Its the teachers partners etc that are on here arguing the case.

Or maybe they don't want become embroiled in an argument over something that is out of their control? It isn't the teachers that closed the schools so why come on here to take the flak off people who have no respect for the profession?

When parents keep the children off school for holidays, shopping trips etc it is their right and will do no harm, but when the school closes for the safety of the children it's the teachers' fault and the children's education suffers!

I'm sure many of the teachers are aching to get back to work/in the classroom, it is a labour of love after all they say.

It's not just the teachers. I know someone who works in the offices at the Collegiate who is off and dying to go back because they have nothing to do. They cant work from home because they work in HR and deal with the staff!

Luckily the Collegiate have got JCBs in to clear the paths and car parks so they should be in for Monday.

boteler school opens monday..thank god...weather and driving conditions must be a lot better come monday....

lymm high is closed on monday but yr11's and sixth formers with exams have to go in
