Briers was up to many things that effected his playing!
I have a long memory. He has a lot to thank tony smith for!

I've always been an advocate of everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you've clearly opened the sherry cabinet a bit too early today, duckie.
At this point in his career (judging his comparative age with GO'B), Briers had just formed a devastating partnership with Appo until he (Lee) had broken his leg/ankle/foot.
Briers had also learned under the tutelage of a legend (Langer), and received dozens of MoMs and had RU sniffing round for his services
GO'B has been passed from pillar to post, not excelling anywhere. Don't get me wrong, there's nowt wrong with the lad, he just doesn't possess that "x factor" that makes him into a very good HB.
GO'B>Briers

| I've seem briers put in one great game followed up by many average and poor ones, and repeat.
Smith changed that, I am always open to opinion to change my mind, unfortunately on this matter I've seen it with my own eyes throughout his career at Warrington.
I don't doubt Lee's fantastic talent, just his self discipline!

and about four and half thousand Wire fans wouldn't have batted an eyelid if Briers was shipped out Swinton on loan to make way for Langer....
Look I loved Lee Briers I was a fan when pre-Tony Smith many were saying he'd had his chance and we should go after x y and z,
but also I sent a former poster on here a pm years ago pre 2009 saying, as good as he was i didn't think we would ever win anything as long as Lee was at the club. thankfully I was wrong but he was a big reason as to why we had to watch other clubs win stuff for a long long time....
Last night I thought Gareth O brien looked confident, possessed a good range of skills, made some good decisions set up a couple of tries and all this playing along side one of the worst ever displays from a half back partner i have ever seen

Van De Velde shot Briers confidence to pieces around this time (as he did with a lot of the young Btitish players) even at one point moving him to fullback.

| Weird game last night.
Started well then bizarrely we went in for half time after 25 minutes and stayed in until the 50th minute! Our kicking game was extremely poor. We put no more than half a dozen good kicks in to the end of sets all night. There were times I looked on and thought we looked unfit as well.
But in the last half hour we were class. From some solid defence to some of the lads putting some huge metres in, it got us right on the front foot and changed the game.

| G'ob always plays a safe pass, nothing too elaborate but his out of hand kicking has been a joy to watch. His kicks last night bang on turning the defence. I thought Brough looked poor in comparison to G'Ob in the kicking department last night.

| After last nights result does anybody get that dejavu feeling you oftent get as a Wire fan. You closest rivals have poor results that you could have capitalise on..............had you taken care of your own game. We "could" currently have been sitting second had they taken the 2 on the penalty. ............... such is the life of a wire

Yep. Had we beaten Wakey a few weeks back and won last night we'd be on 36pts and would have a shout at the LLS.

| Been a very interesting year this year. No team stands out. I'm amazed Saints are 5 points clear, their fans have written themselves off for the GF but I don't see why. If they can have so many missing and still be 1st they must have some confidence in their ability?

I suspect the reason that Saints fans aren't reviewing pubs near Old Trafford just yet is that they were absoltely woeful against a Leeds side who played with 12 man for an hour. If the ref hadn't incorrectly penalised Leeds incorrectly for a knock-on in the last minutes of thegame they may have hung on.
Saints finishing top is fine, well done to them, but the quality of the comp, the quality of the rugby and the attendances have been poor.

You're right that we were woeful against a 12 man leads but that only reaffirmed our beliefs that we wouldn't get to the GF rather than instigate them. The fact that we lost our star signing who is also our main man in terms of play-making, organisation and goal kicking, plus our best full back who could play scrum half in emergencies, PLUS our emergency backup scrum half who isn't brilliant but still allows us to play somewhat to our ability is why we have written off our chances. Shit happens, the LLS is a crumb of comfort after a pretty good season and a signal that we are at least back in the hunt. Next year will be the year we pin our hopes on I imagine.
Agree the quality of the league hasn't been good this year, I also think the same about pretty much every SL season since 2009.

I've seen Saints, Wigan, ourselves and Huddersfield look terrible on a few occasions this season and that's four of the top 6. Leeds were terrible at the HJ and away to Saints. So that's 5 of the top 6. The only team who've performed well almost every time I've seen them have been Cas. And maybe that's because I don't expect as much from them because of previous season's quality with them so I've been more easily impressed with them.
In other words, Super League is full of inconsistent and a mixed bag in quality of teams.
Would this squad of players win SL
Or is it just one of those years?

Well the second Harrison try (and it was a try because it was given) might stink, but so did Huddersfield's 80 minutes of wrestling after the held call, slowing down the ptb, constant 3rd and 4th man flopping onto the completed tackle, and continuous offsides made the games really tedious for me. Not quite up to Wigan's standard, but getting there.

This is where the game is being spoiled because referees haven't got the commitment to stamp their authority on games by penalising foul play which is evident in every game around the ruck area. Most teams are doing it unpunished resulting in very little yardage made with ball in hand & having to finish with a hurried kick upfield which is making our game look like a version of rugby union.Start dishing penalties & sin bins out for offside, not square ,lying on a bit more often & coaches will soon get the message. The refs could play a big part in opening the game up.

Huddersfield have been doing that for years, not just in that 80 minutes. How do you think Chris Nero made a living.....

| To be fair, it isn't just Huddersfield and I'm sure opposition fans feel we get away with all sorts at the PTB as well.
Stepping off the mark, pushing players off balance, flopping, not standing square you name it, any indescretion possible to niggle and spoil teams are employing it, and getting away with it.
It's really ruining the spectacle, and a game that has built it's reputation on speed and fluency should be very worried about how it's crept into the game this season.
The sin-bin was intended for technical offences. Show some morale fibre and use it. Use it early, warn the player, warn the captain then start brandishing the yellow. They'll get the hint.

| I imagine one of, if not THE first thing discussed by opposing teams preparing to play us is how to slow down our ptb. These tactics will continue to be implemented against us until the refs stamp it out.
