| The remarks by Wellens about the embarrassment of losing to the Wire just show the arrogance of the man .....amazing how when we beat some of these teams it has been because they had an off day.
I am just glad that in the year we finished top that so many of the other teams enabled us to do it by having off days.

The year we finished top, we lost games to Catalans and Hull who were mid table sides. I'm sure we regarded this as us having an 'off day'. That's how Saints view us now. A mid-table side who you shouldn't be losing to if you are genuine trophy contenders.

It was nothing to do with being beaten by Warrington. It was everything to do with our totally humiliating performance. C'mon we gifted you your first half tries! You got your first one by picking up the ball that LMS had dumped out of the tackle for Mr Nobody. You didn't have to do much because we just gave you the ball. We particularly liked passing it to nobody.
What Wellens said worked. Everybody knuckled down this week, bar one or two who still need to do more. Our game last night was not for your entertainment, it was the first step to retrieving what started as a great season for us.
Wello is the least arrogant player you will find in rugby league. But he does love his Saints and he shows that every week by giving 110% on the pitch. Most of the rest of the team were not giving the 10% last week much less 110%. They'd have scored more than three tries in nine minutes had they done so.

| Not how I saw it.
Wello said he was embarrassed by the defeat and Brown also said he told the players how they can beat Leeds and Wigan.
Apparently Wire in his opinion aren't a team that requires his council to beat.

| Hudds were pants last night, and Saints punished them.
Typical Saints fan reaction though, a mate of mine text me saying how epic Saints were (he's only just started watching RL about two weeks ago as his missus is a Saints fan, he used to despise the sport) so I reminded him how epic Warrington were at the magic weekend, to which he replied, "no, we (saints) were crap". I then replied how Hudds were crap also, and he wasn't having any of it.
Can't have it both ways.

| But Saints were only humiliated last week because the Wire did a typical Saints blitzkrieg on Saints & knocked them out of their stride. Our typical start of allowing opponents to score first would have allowed Saints to open an ever widening gap as we chased the game. Last week a dramatic change of tactics worked for us .

No because Wire are pretty average this season.
That's not the opinion of disrespectful Saints fans thats the opinion of Wire fans.
We are an average team that is lacking power in the front row, lacking a dominant halfback, lacking leadership and lacking ideas of how to finish off plays and get over the try line.
If we are bothered about not having respect from Stevo/Eddie or the rest of Super League here's a way to address that:
1. Go to Bradford in the Challenge Cup and smash them. 50-0 or something. Other teams have done it. Don't give them a sniff of being able to compete.
2. Take on whoever we get drawn against in the semi finals and win. However we do it, just win.
3. Go to Wembley and complete our 4th Challenge Cup title in 5 years since 2009.
That will get respect: are Wire a team good enough to get it?

Ahem. I don't do mind games so I'll assume you're sincere, in which case you're talking nonsense. Warrington have done 1,2 & 3, and more, to some of the darlings of RL since 2009 and received little or no credit for it. It's always an off-day for someone else, the last hurrah for an aging team, or the tides of the sea. It's never 17 players outplaying their 17 opponents.
Saints on the other hand have been seond best to us during that period, both on and off the field, and yet the first sniff (and that's all it is at this stage, a sniff) of a return to the glory days and they are being lauded as the merseyside equivalent of the 86 Kangaroos and a team who Warrington should be grateful to grace the same turf as.

| That's a big exaggeration morrissey, if you take out Eddie and Stevo, who everyone seems to be disproportionately influenced by because you hear them every week, Warrington have done well in the media stakes.
The print media, local radio and the BBC have been well disposed to us for a while. Going back a few years to when Gina Coldrick was here, she was the best of the media officers and ran a very good media operation: add that to the fact Cullen was very media-friendly as a coach and we probably got disproportionately positive press, or at least "attention" in the Cullen era.
Back then even Sky used to big us up, probably because Cullen was on there and he was their mate. Phil Clarke might spend most of his time up Wigans backside but I remember his catchphrase about us was "on their day, Warrington play the best attacking rugby in Super League" and he would love to highlight great moves by us.
Now one big factor clouded the coverage we get from Sky after 2009: Eddie and Stevo hate Tony Smith. I don't know why but they just don't rate him. When we sacked Jimmy Lowes and appointed TS, I remember Stevo having a face like thunder and saying "these clubs will never learn: when will they learn to give a good young British coach a chance and not just jump for the first Aussie".
Obviously then TS made Warrington quite successful, which Stevo especially hated. You can tell the animosity when TS has done Sky interviews, he knows what they think of him and I don't get the impression TS views Eddie and Stevo as the fountains of RL knowledge either...
So Sky's attitude to Warrington during the Smith era has been lukewarm, compared to the generally positive approach before.
Now the BBC have been very pro-Warrington. They have the Challenge Cup and we've been good in that, but they have really talked us up: the Cup Kings we have been to the BBC. If we make the semis, watch them bring that line out. Brian Noble has been positive about us but I don't think that's any kind of sneaking bias towards us, I think Noble is a very good and fair media commentator, and he was calling it like it was, it was always stuff like: "Warrington are a fantastic offensive unit....you're not right on top of your game, they'll punish you". Clare Balding was always enthusiastic about Warrington and of course Davies was commentating as well. The BBC liked Morley and Briers who both got a lot of interviews and air time. Briers became something of a media personality in the last years of his career, largely BBC.
So take out Eddie and Stevo, and Warrington were actually well regarded in the media. I thought the written press slightly overrated us. When we lost to Leeds in the 2011 semi and the 2012 Grand Final, it was seen in parts of the media as a shock, "are Warrington big game bottlers?" Leeds are the dominant team of the era who have won title after title but it was regarded as a surprise that they beat us in those games. And we went in to all of our Challenge Cup finals as favourites!

| Sorry SC I disagree.
Warrington is 3rd best on Radio Merseyside after Saints and Widnes. 3rd best on Radio Manchester who no longer cover Warrington but will relay Radio Merseyside commentary if the game doesn't clash with Saints of Widnes, or they use the local station of that region.
Its been that way for almost 3 years because of BBC cut backs.

Yes we aren't big on those stations. But Warrington is not really their core audience is it. Radio Merseyside is a station for scousers and I would bet more scouse rugby league fans support Saints / Widnes than Wire. Radio Manchester is more in the region of Wigan and Salford.
But tbh I don't really get upset if these local radio stations don't prioritise Wire.
In all our big victories I don't remember once hearing that Warrington, the underdogs, just won because the opposition had an off day. The big club having an 'off day' line was pointed at us when we [ididn't[/i win SL: a case in point being when Hudds smashed us at home in the 2010 playoffs, or when we lost to Leeds (repeatedly SL champions) at home in the 2011 playoffs. Even going back to 2005, when we lost the playoff to Hull who were CC winners that year, it wasn't seen so much as "a great performance by Danny Brough and Hull" as a terrible off day by Warrington.

| At least we've got Radio Warrington, which will hopefully continue to improve.
Huddersfield's defensive line early on was awful with many hanging back, individuals rushing up, and gaps a mile wide. They also didn't control the ruck, which was heaven for Roby.
Some on Sky will just put it down to excellent attack, at least others on there do point out defensive issues.

Think you are off target with that one, his comments where purely on his own team attitude and performance, don't think he ever mentioned "loosing to the Wire was an embarrassment" I think you have just made that up.
Brough made similar comments about the giants not performing and not being good enough.
If you want wellens to be arrogant he would have said "We are much better than the Wire and should have beaten them by 80-0"

I think Benny the Ball, Brains, Fancy, Spook and Choo-Choo should be informed.
Maybe we should get Officer Dibble to investigate.
