In the thread about the Wire games most of them have said they would rather win the cup game and are desperate to get to Wembley..? What a difference a year makes....
They were calling the Challenge cup a mickey mouse comp when Moz was holding it aloft 2 years on the spin...

It is. The Cup is a nice day out, but it's the Grand Final everyone wants to win. A far bigger high than winning the cup IMO.

I just don't see why. The GF is much harder to win. The challenge cup usually has 2-3 tough games.

Don't say I'm saying it just because we won the GF last year, I am a fan of the club who has won the Challenge cup more than any other.

Could be because the cup is R.L.'s most historic trophy and its played at Wembley stadium where every professional sportsman dreams of playing especially in a final...
The Grand Final is played in a football stadium and the playoffs were manufactured by Sky to prolong the season and keep the money rolling in...

Read the thread, most of us state (me included) that the cup game is more important as we can still lose to you in the league and still finish top and / or win the GF. Thats all. I would still rather win the GF, but to knock you out of the cup at the HJ would be a massive win for us given that you have played the best rugby this year thus far.

Wigan have the depth to cope with the fixture list.

The cup game at the moment is going to be far more important than the league game. It will give the winner momentum.
The league placings will prob be virtually sorted by the league game but should one of the 2 teams reach the cup final then it will take one big effort to win the league game week after.

There does seem to be an assumption that whoever wins the cup match will go to Wembley. I think 3 others sides will have something to say about this. You are certainly right about the league match the week after the cup final, assuming that one of us does make it. Who knows, we could both have egg on our chin by then.

I was there in 1998 but we missed 2002 for some reason, can't remember why. Whether I was there or not, Wigan have won the challenge cup 6 times in my lifetime

Hopefully our depth will see us through the next 2 games.

We're missing Richards, Coley and Prescott from the Leeds game tonight and will bring in Goulding, Hock and probably Farrell to replace them. They're are obviously good quality options to have as back up although bringing in 2 second rowers for props may leave us a little light.

The good news for us tonight is that Cas have more problems then us with Orr and Hudson pulling out through injury adding to plenty of other injuries.

As for which game/trophy Wigan or Wire would rather win I think both clubs fans would given the choice settle for a swap. I think with our history in the cup and the fact that we've not played at the new Wembley we'd probably edge towards that and i'd guess you guys would edge towards to the Grand Final because at the end of the day if you win the Grand Final your regarded as top dogs.

Maybe we can come to some arrangment! ha ha.

we should be okay, on paper two very weak teams, both are potential bannana skins though.

An interesting statistic is that One more defeat and we will have dropped more points than we did in the whole of last season (five losses no draws). Regardless though if we limit the losses to two more defeats (apart from you away) will almost certainly see us finish top.

Think we will get convincingly beaten in the cup though.
