Why Moe?
At Cas despite being a miserable so and so he has developed a very attractive team battling with the so called big boys with what I would imagine to be relatively meagre finances certainly compared to ours. We have been crying out for a coach who can develop players and play a more attractive style of rugby. He just could be the man. With us potentially losing both our halfbacks at the end of this season if he were to bring Truman with him to partner our young rising starlett.....
I just think our crop of very promising youngsters need a coach who can bring them on and for me Powell could fit the bill.

| Maybe Wane to us and Powell to Wigan/Leeds.
Maybe half time tonight we may know.
I for one would prefer SW.

| I can’t see Powell coming to us at all. The main ill feeling seems to be between him and Wane as much as anything but he seems to dislike Wigan even more than our fans dislike him. I’m sure Lenagan and Radlinski will have their eyes on coaches movements but Lam will get time to nail another contract.

| The official line from Cas is that both parties agreed on the split in 2020. In which case, doesn’t that make the coincidence circumstantial?

hmm, not sure i agree with that, one of the things levvied at powell is that he's not(similar to price) trusted his juniors too much.
Bare in mind trueman was someone they got when bradford went breasts vertical. As was alex foster. Actual cas juniors have been used sparingly.

| I would prefer Powell all day to long than Wane. Powell would bring much more attacking game to Wire than Wane and I think he would gets the best out of the youngsters as well. I also would feel the same cheering Wane on as manager rafter his ******house tactics on Ratchford in the grand final !! Hope it’s announced tonight

Hmmm a “circumstantial coincidence” does that count as an oxymoron?

| 1. I don't want Powell.
2. I think that we'd probably win the big one with Wane. I do wonder a little if his cherry and white blood was the real driving force at Wigan rather than being the ultimate in coaching, but he seems to hate losing which is a good attitude.

Reminds me of Ken Davy doing this at Huddersfield ten years or so ago before a game near the end of a season. They announced free admission for a game against Catalans, to get the fans in for an announcement that they trailed as being one of the most significant in the club's history. The papers picked up on it and speculated that Huddersfield had signed Darren Lockyer. There was an excited buzz as Ken Davy took the stage at half time and made a long winded speech about how far the club had come etc and then made the announcement: discount on season tickets for next season and children under 12 come in free with an accompanying adult.

| I like Wane but would be perfectly happy with Powell.
This stuff about him being a 'moaner' is a complete red herring. Have you ever been on this board after we have lost. It is always full of posts moaning about the ref, the other teams spoiling tactics, trainer being on the field too much, other team's coach being a gobsheet.
If Powell comes to us and starts moaning about this stuff people will say: well said, finally we have a coach who is willing to tell it like it is to the 'establishment'.

Wane would of always had the pick of youngsters joining Wigan same as St Helens have. With our academy starting to produce young players and the training facilities at Warrington, I think Powell could win the grand final with us and with a more attractive style wane would play with

| Powell for me. Wane did some very good things with one club having inherited a ready-made squad and a winning culture. I’d really have wanted to see what he could do at another club before we gambled on him.
Powell had a decent blooding as temporary Leeds coach followed by turning around Featherstone. He then had a very average Castleford squad that he repeatedly seemed to get the best out of. I think last season he suffered from the Tony Smith syndrome. He’s just been there too long. You don’t see Wigan or Saints persisting with a top coach that long even after a couple of trophies.
As for the moaning, who cares. Focus on the play and turn off the TV during the after-match and interviews.
On a separate note, our youngsters coming through look to be the best all-round potential professional athletes we’ve had for years. And we seem to have a few in all the key positions - Dean, Thewlis, Roebuck, Robson, Longstaff to name a few. I’d love to see what Powell or Wane could do with these guys.

| Powell is not where this club should be and that appointment would be a poor one and show a real lack of ambition. It will be a British coach and Wane is the best solution. We have an unbelievable academy structure and have invested heavily in that, Wanes record bringing academy players is second to none together with his winning record and mentality.
Incidentally , Wane . May not want the job to be fair .

Given the same players and resources would the trophies won by each read the same as they currently do? I don't think so personally. Would cas have been better recently with wane in charge? Again I don't think so. Its hardly a fair comparison to compare head to head is it?

At least with Powell we’d be able to watch some great attacking rugby.

I would prefer Powell personally, but I do agree I'd be happy with either. Wane was the most likable Wigan coach of my lifetime after Millward. Powell can be a hit miserable after a loss but I am as well usually, I wouldnt really want our coach to be chirpy after a defeat but to have our players playing like Powells cas teams when fully fit, yes please.

| If Wire “play the Wire way” in 2021 and end up finishing top of SL and winning the GF, like Wigan did under Maguire, to then be succeeded by assistant Shaun Wane, shouldn’t Wire offer the position Price vacates, in the same way, to Henderson?
Only saying.

From what we've seen that's a big IF. The key in succession planning is success.
However I agree that succession planning in any business let alone sports club is something to strive for you've only got to look at the boot room mentality at a certain association football club in the 70s for a blueprint.

It’s a good point, all fans do it. All the fans on here wanting Wane we all hated him at Wigan but will have him here in a heartbeat, and yes Powell looks as happy as turkey at a pre xmas drinks party but we would be on his side if we thought we had reason to be.
