| Quote ="ratticusfinch"Where were the clean breaks, when were the breaks? When/where were the missed tackles? Where were the metres mostly made? (I could be wrong but I think Makinson was comfortably the highest metre maker - that'll tell you where those metres were made). Where/when were the offloads - were they advantageous?
The most telling stat of the game is 18-4 - that's pretty conclusive.'"
Clean breaks, id say were in the first half, naqaima and makinson, made a few down the right edge which was worrisome, however our defence bust a gut and got back to make the tackles, and stop the little offloads and broken play areas that lomax and fages thrive off.
Despite what i just said, i think we did a reasonable Job overall on naqaima who has given us the s down left side this year

Our problem was Ashworth (2) Paulo (5) Knowles (4) Amor (6) Peyroux (6) with the number of carries I would think the Wire equivalent were double those figures. We did miss Matty Lees energy running at the wire pack.
.
Don't know the penalty count yet, the stats are only being drip fed at the moment.

| Saints made quite a few marauding runs on their sets of six ,going nearly the length of the field at times , but my take is that our defence coupled with better execution of the scoring chances on offer won us the game.

Walmsley was awful. He offered very little going forward. You compare his performance to Mike Cooper who's half his size and it was a poor effort.
A lad his size should be busting tackles most weeks but I genuinley can't remember the last time he did so.
He also went off after 20 mins and as far as I could see he never came back on till 50-60 mins.

That's outrageous. I think we should contact the rfl and demand an explanation.

Well if you're going to contact the rfl just make sure you do it discretely and don't tell the local press

| Will there be a replay or do we just post the trophy to the team that would have won except for
1) Ref bias
2) Ref incompetence
3) That nasty Wire team daring to tackle the preciouses
4) Their players had had too much rest
5) Their players were coming back from injury (good job nobody told Jack Hughes that this would affect his ability to keep hold of balls).
6) (My personal favourite) the RFL had told us to let Catalans win last year and we would be guaranteed a win this year
Have I missed any... oh yes
7) MR McManus, Mr Holbrook, Mr Vegas...your boys took a hell of a beating!

| 8. Matty Lees didn't play.... Hill is terrified of him apparently.
9. They shouldn't have watered the pitch as it caused Coote to slip and miss the conversion.
We got any others???

Sorry MW88 but the others are genuine excuses put forward by their fans (apart from 7 which was self indulgent).
Otherwise No 1 would have been LMS’s knuckles dragging on the ground slowed him down.

My bad, Imagination got the better of me CH
On a serious note it’s actually laughable the amount excuses thrown about. I think given the fact they’ve gone so long without winning the CC and expectation to win, it’s obvious the result has got a lot of them triggered. With the odd exceptions, 2 of my close friends are die hard Saints fans & admitted we completely out played them and deserved to win.

I'm not really sure where this narrative comes from. Pretty much everything I've read is that the Knowles try was a shocker of a decision (which clearly it was) but that we bottled it again, with bad errors and a poor kicking game.
Clearly you can always find the odd nut-job who sees shadows but that's nothing new.
The main fountain of disrespect and excuses was actually your own fans in the lead up to the Final, not the Saints fans afterwards.

All the excuses I stated are on Redvee including the conspiracy theory.

Agreed. The camera was poor quality and didn't show anything conclusive. His hand slid down the side of the ball and it would have been slight fingertip pressure, if any.
As I've said, if Hicks sent it up to the video ref as 'no try' which he obviously would have done, it wouldn't be overturned.
Don't really care if it was anyway. We've had out fair share of bad refereeing performance against us, as all clubs have. We were all lamenting Hicks after last years GF.

| What about all of Saints’ continual offsides and not square at the PTB (not just in the final but in every game they play)? Hardly a penalty given all game for it
What about and all of their obstructions for the high ball kicks from Wire (at least four saw a Saints player run in a different direction to their original trajectory of run)? One of them Naiqama ran at 90° to his original path and took out Goodwin - No penalty given for any of them
What about the head shot to Daryl Clark when he made that great run and put that grubber in for Grace to knock-on? No penalty was given
What about Tiaia’s high shot on King? No penalty was given
What about our no try? The camera shot from behind showed he didn’t touch him
What about Tiaia obstructing Mamo for the only points Saints scored?
What about the clear forward pass in the league game at the HJ when we’d been NILLING them for an hour up to that point?

Agreed maybe slid sideways...so no downward fingertip pressure or ball control either....no try.
Hicks was Johnny on the spot.

| Also what we haven’t seen is the camera shot from behind to show a proper perspective of it.
Hicks would have sent it up as no try and you can’t overturn that and give a try from a zoomed in camera angle from the other side of the ball.
You have to prove for certain that he definitely grounded it. Not show that it looked like he might have grounded it from an unreliable camera angle 100m away.
