| oh my word Ive just checked the stats on the Superleague website currie has made 19 carries and westwood only 18 that is a nonsense sheer and utter rubbish if Currie made 18 carries and more than Westwood they are counting passes (not runs) from Dummy half as a carry.
someone who taped the game count them I did live at the game he never made it to double figures.
according to the stats Currie made 8 tackle busts...I must have gone to the wrong game .... 8 busts...??
who was counting Joey Essex

So you went and looked up the stats so you could slag off Currie a bit more, and now you're throwing yourntoys out because they don't prove your point. Not your best look.

| not at all I hate using stats to explain any performance its quite stupid and its like playing a bad game of top trumps....but I like the belittling toys out of the pram line nice touch...
I looked to see if they told a tale and they clearly dont, it just underlines my stance that anyone solely using stats hasnt got much of a clue about the game...
I'm more having a laugh at the stats than wanting to slag off Currie he was lazy last night for large parts of the game, and he gave two passes that hit players on the side because he wouldnt take the hit up, and forced a pass instead. Yet they dont get registered as errors...???
and the best you can come up with is i'm throwing toys out of the pram.
for some reason you like to attack my posts when you can more than anyone else I respect that but at least provide something back rather than trying to look smug if I've said something wrong.
Give me a couple of examples of Curries eight tackle busts...?? ( i had to make a phone call during the game so I may have missed one)

| I think the losing the plot after half time & letting teams get back into games has been a problem for quite a few seasons but in the past we have had more fire power to come back & stamp our authority on games, although that has been diminishing steadily over the last 2 or 3 seasons. I think players must be brainwashed when they come here though into playing panic rugby & switching off after half time.

| Mmm
I didn't really enjoy the match. It was scrappy - too many errors - and as has been said by others we had a lot of things going in our favour (turnaround time, Carney missing etc).
There just doesn't seem to be a flow with the team at the moment and I wouldn't know really where to start.
Chris Hill is probably our only player who is playing consistently well (Ratch is almost in that category, apart from the one handed carries).
Currie does some good things that get noticed (not his issue) but he's not at Whiteheads level. A lot of pressure on him due to media hype and McBanana's comments. It doesn't help him.
Unfortunately the halves are the biggest problem, but all the chopping and changing doesn't help. Then again if they're not performing at the required standard you have to try something different.
Things can change in a matter of a few games (just ask Radford at Hull), but I don't see where that's going to come from (Hull got key players back from injury).
Not expecting anything this year. If by some miracle we get in the top 4 we're not at the same standard as the current top 4.
We should get in the 8, but it's still very close 5-10.
The Cup depends on the draw, but ultimately we'll come up against a top side. As in the Wiagn / KR match anything can happen in the Cup but I honestly can't see a spark that could deliver that for us.

| The only clean breaks I saw came from Atkins and Bridge. I was on the phone to flying for the 5 mins that Currie made those 8 busts, although lack of busts is not a bad thing if it means he has passed the ball before hand??
I like currie. He has improved massively on his attack. Without him and the good fortune we had, we wouldn't have won v Cats. He doesn't hit first often in a tackle though, I'd like to see him up the anti on defence if we continue with this current HB partnership, it's a case of him having too.

If he was lazy for large parts of the game, his 19 carries for 161m (13m more than anyone else on the pitch) is even more impressive! The first pass, to GOB, I'll cop being forced, even though GOB didn't take it because he was tackled without the ball, hence you getting a penalty. The second pass, Harrison should have taken that all day, hence him apologising at the scrum. A tackle bust is breaking a tackle, it's completely different to a clean break (breaking the line). Walmsley is on 64 tackle busts for the season, don't think he's made many clean breaks!
Clearly you take issue with the stats, so there are two possibilities here. 1 - Opta, the people who make a living from finding and presenting sports stats, have got their sports stats completely and utterly wrong. 2 - you have.
I think Warrington will do well enough to make the semis this year in Super League by virtue of their overall talent, but you're probably too weak (and undecided) at halfback to present a major challenge this year. Curious to see where Kurt Gidley will fit in next year in this regard.

He made one clean line break for his first try. ..how obvious do you need one to be. .?
And mtrs made let's take that.... currie scores a fifty mtr try down the touchline unopposed. Ratchford fields a kick on his own line and makes thirty metres on open grass before reaching another human being Chris Hill makes a three mtr carry under his own sticks with three Catalan forwards smashing in to him. Those mtrs are directly comparable in the stats.... surely you can see there is no point what so ever in comparing the "easy" mtrs with those hill sims and Westwood make???

| I've been a reader of this forum for quite a while but i had to sign up as i dont understand the thinking of a lot of the posters.
My main question is what are you expecting from our younger players?
I understand you want players like the legends before but its not going the happen that way!
Patton, Currie, both Kings, Ormsby, Philbin and any others?
I know you all want the glory days but these aren't going to be the same players as Briers, Westwood, King, Morley.
They're going to be different players in their own right!
The main talking point of this thread seems to be Currie and comparisons to Westwood and Hill.
Of course he's not going to make the same kind of metres of Hill and Westwood, they're battering rams, Curries a ball playing forward who will see the gaps and put his support runners through, although a few of his runs against Cats put their players on their a$$es!
You said he wasn't there for obrien, watch it back, he was there obrien just didn't pass it!
So I what are you wanting?

| To be fair Currie is developing it can be seen each week not a messiah but one we can believe in for the future, a measure of respect the Cats gave him was to put a very good player Whitehead 5/6 years senior out wide to mark him, Whitehead as a rule is all over the pitch but on Friday he was mainly concentrated on the right, Currie certainly draws the attention of opposition defences.
Watching the game back the amount of intense tackling was amazing by all, Atkins put some big hits on big men took his tries well as usual and was going strong at the end he just needs to work on his centre play technicalities, all of which Toby King already posses just not as physical as Atkins yet.

| On the Guardian web page this morning,Tony Smith is rightly bemoaning the lack of reserve sides within the game to get players match fit. The RFL money saving idea is crippling the game & leaving too much of a step up from under 19 to full on superleague rugby.

| Quote ="Bobby_Peru"Think your right about GOB being brought back for his goal kicking, pity it was very ordinary last night. I'd stick with Bridge as kicker tbh.
We played some decent stuff in patches las night, however it would have been a different result if Cats hadn't knocked on when they looked like going in for their third straight try at the start of the second half. We really need to do some work on our mindset when coming back on after the break, that's two weeks now where we have been caught napping.
Can someone explain to me why Westwood thought that applying a chicken wing tackle was a good idea, just bleeding stupid, he'll miss the Shudders game for that.'"
He didn't, he put pressure on Batieri's neck when in an awkward position.

| If only John Clarke and Mike Wainwright still played for us. I'm sure that they would take most of the flak some of our younger players are getting. I think the long term future of the club looks very exciting. We have some excellent youngsters and add in a sprinkling of experience such as Gidley and a marquee player next year and we should be well placed.

Agree 100% about the long term future for the club, it's good to see the young players coming through the more the merrier.

| I disagree, the pressure on the neck was exacerbated by raising his arms into an unnatural position. Anyway, we'll see what the RFL says on it.

| It was a disgusting crusher and chicken wing tackle, preceded by both elbows to the face and a Cumberland throw and polished off by an attack to the legs. Westwood could cop a long ban for it.
In all seriousness, I couldn't see it but the ref indicated a crusher tackle.
