Maybe Monaghan cant operate under real pressure

He was exceptional for them at halfack over a period of a couple of months when Orford wasn't around.
I just think it's the structured style of play in the NRL that suits him, and other NRL halves that come here, as oppose to our 'off the cuff' attack orientated game. Lee Briers shines because he has an insanely quick RL brain, his speed of thought is uncanny, possibly too quick for his own good at times.

Thats the difference in professionalism. If Briers had made the sacrifices like Goulding and Long he would have enjoyed a long career with the Saints, but he chose beer.

We need to encourage more of our players to become Mormons. Look at the likes of Israel Folau, Krisnan Inu, and Sam Perrett. They have all become international players while abstaining from alcohol altogether for religious reasons.

| Agree with the comments about Briers. The years of excess have caught up and his body is shot to pieces. Long has been no angel from what I have heard either, but better conditioning and supplements have prolonged his career.

Wonder if Warrington are one of the two clubs chasing his signature, contract up at the end of next year and still will only be 27, fantastic replacement for Monaghan and Myler could learn a hell of a lot from him.

Well the two club involved are after him a full two years before his deal end's, this just shows how good of a player he is, just trying to create a discussion fella, come on tho you can't disagree that he would be and excellent signing irrelevant of what year he sign's.

He's a quality player, there's no question of that.
I'm not too concerned right now though who we bring in for 2011. I'm not concerned about who we bring in for 2010 really, I think Smith is proving that major surgery isn't required, just tweaks here & there.
If Orford is available for 2010, and interested, do you take him, or do you wait a year and see if you get Thurston for 2011 ?
I'd take neither, Sinfield at 6 & Myler at 7 for 2010, according to you we'll have them both anyhow, that's what I'll roll with, leave Harrison at 13. A passer & a runner at halfback.

| I suspect this is a case of his manager bringing the supposed "cashed up" English clubs into early contract discussions. Could well see Thurston coming over in his early 30s for a final pension topup, but not whilst at his peak.

=redDon't quite agree with this because i feel he's making good of what he has at the moment and may not feel buying half a dozen players mid season is the answer, i feel he will bring in and let players go at then end of the year which is what's needed to push the club forward, so the major surgery will be at the end of the year.
=greenI would wait for Thurston, better player, younger and if we believe the League Express then Hull FC are close to signing Orford.
=blueWould much prefer to see Sinfield at 13, Myler and Monaghan at 6 & 7 therefore Harrison can replace Rauhihi in the forwards, Harrison is doing a fine job at 13 but i don't think that's were his future lies, especially with somebody like Sinfield on board.

| Another Aussie international trying to kick his club(and other NRL teams) into gear int erms of offering him a big fat pay rise and extension. There isn't a chance of him coming over here.
I mentioned on the Saints board what a rise it's been for the guy because 4-5 years ago he was in the Bulldogs reserves and struggling to get a game.........a club over here would have got him for a pittance back then!
That would have been a coup.
