TBH the way i saw things was that it was either Ratchford or Waterhouse who moved out of the line for Whiting to score. Not sure which as i only saw it once at the match.

| Whiting was clearly riley's man to tackle and he just let him stroll in without laying a hand on him. I tell my 8 year old son off if he defends like that. He has now made massive defensive errors in some of our biggest games. But he's a local lad so i guess we won't criticise him.

| Moe,
I understand your point and he was really Riley's man to tackle but you've got to give credit to Whiting for his positioning and angle of run.
The ball went out with Whiting coming in.
Riley was moving out and was left for dead.
Looked easy for Whiting but he made it look easy.

One bad game doesn't mean he's a bad player. If Tony thinks the same as you, Ratchford will be playing at centre on Sunday.

In all honesty though, our right side of attack has been our go to players this season. Yeamon and Briscoe haven't been firing all season with the loss of Manu.

O.K. Mr RL coach
Right, so the majority of his performances are pure garbage.
Please explain to me why Cullen and Smith (a GF and CC winning coach) have signed him, and given him extended contracts.
So Bridge wouldn't get into a first choice 17
Please explain why Smith gave Bridge a "starting number jersey" as opposed to a "squad number jersey".
What you really mean is, if you were in charge, you wouldn't give him a squad number that Professor Brian Cox could imagine, just to put his nose out of joint, such is your dislike of Bridge.
From the close on a decade we've seen of Bridge in a Wire shirt, I've seen multiple examples of Bridge, busting tackles, making great metres forward, tackling, ball distribution. In short, being a key (and very good) member of our team.
YES, WE GET THE #####ING POINT, YOU DON'T RATE HIM.
I don't rate one or two of our players (one in particular I share with Horatio Yed), but I don't come on here, every two minutes, shouting vitriol about him.
You must have been "nursing one", when Bridge made his mistakes on Sunday.
Sad really, as I was gutted for the lad. He had a very poor game (by his standards). ATEOTD, he's a Wire. PITY YOU'RE NOT.

Im really struggling to see what Riley offers these days.... Some people dont like it when you criticize him. But i don't think he is good enough as a starting winger for a team at the top.
I suppose you could excuse all his defensive frailties and mistakes if he was lightning fast or an exceptional finisher.... but he is far from either.

His contract is up this year.
Do we replace him with Williams. No
Is he better than Williams? Yes.
Or do we place both?

TBF Smith has extended Williams contract, so he doesn't get it right all the time. I'm not a fan of Bridge, i don't think he has the rugby brain required, strutting round with his invisible carpets under his arms and an expression like he's sucking on a lemon isn't enough. He is strong and quick, his passing is hit and miss. I would rather see Blythe in his position.

I would like to see Evans start on the wing. However the trouble would seem to be keeping him fit... Another option could be to play Atkins there outside Grix or Ratchford
I don't think Riley or Williams are good enough for our first team.

Think that was apparent when he got chased down by Eorl Crabtree in last years semi-final. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at loose forward in the near future.

I'm calling horse on this one, Bridge's best and most consistant form was after he came back from the achilles injury and he settled into playing centre for us, prior to that he was getting shifted around and infact injured himself playing fullback.
His best form came under smith and was chosen for england on the back of it.

So do you think his best days are ahead of him? I think its going to be hard for him to improve on his form of a few years ago.
I think he is capable of maintaining his current level for a few seasons before he tails off... His problem is his fitness... If he can put 5/6 games together and get up to speed he will be back to somewhere near his best.
He is an excellent on his day... i wouldn't be surprised if we moved him on though.

He is lightning fast over thirty metres, and his finishing is impeccable. Just check the tries he scored at the Etihad, or the one from the 'on the toes' pass form Grix in the QF against Giants. They are just examples of finishes that most other wingers would not have executed.

i didn't say his best days were behind him deckers, i'm just saying that to say he's lost all his speed/talent whatever after the achilles, is wrong, prior to that he'd had a stop start career has a back up then first choice scrum half slash stand off, where he never really seemed comfortable, then we were trying him out as a fullback.
When he got back into the first team in 09, he knuckled down, seemed to learn from the 'bridge st' episode and cracked on and did a bloody good job of filling in for gleeson that season, in what was a rough year in the main for the team.
Personally, i think he's had his peak, as you say, i wouldn't be surprised to see him moved on at some point, and i'll be honest with you, i thought it was the wrong call earlier this year to drop Evans in favour of bridge, Rhys' form was pretty good individually and didn'ty warrant being dropped (plus also we know when he isn't playing first team, he gets injured).
I tell you what though, i don't like it when bridgey picks the ball up and runs centre field(like for that kick) it fills me with dread as he usually puts a crap pass out to a forward coming on an angle and it gets dropped. it reminds me of Rocket Rodwell putting short fast passes out at the line to Paul marquet, the only rugby player without thumbs.

| We have really only glimpsed the talents of Rhys Evans in the first team ,but he does seem to pick up injuries at an alarming rate & would his body stand up to regular SL as the centre of choice ?

You do begin to wonder if he is going to be one of those players that struggles from one injury to the next and finally has to retire from the game. My concern is that he has now had two lengthy foot injuries, both I think due to breakages.

This was the situation we found ourselves in with Simon Grix not long after he'd signed. Those days are now well behind him and he looks pretty much indestructible.

Well lets hope we see the same with Rhys. He is still quite raw, but the few games he played for us this season were impressive. He looked a different player from the previous season and his tackling was excellent. Looks as though he will probably have to wait until next year now, but at least he will know that Matty is not coming back so I would imagine he could take that to be 'getting the nod' from the coaching staff.
