Exactly. He's an obvious talent, but he still has massive faults in his game and has shown enough to show why Powell might not be willing to throw him into our first choice side.

Longstaff is showing some promise though. I’ve got no doubt his aggression and energy will benefit the side when he eventually gets a chance. I’m hoping we are patient enough with him while he develops, as he effectively saved the game for Hull at the end. It was clear there are a couple of areas to work on though.

Also, can you imagine the meltdown that would have occurred on here if we had been battered by Cats, with Holmes and Currie the villains? Longstaff saving the game for Hull would have been like pouring plutonium on the fire at Chernobyl. As it stands we are just at Three Mile Island levels of alert.

Spot on. I think with the right guidance there is a definitely a good player there, it's just massively naive to think a regular inclusion in our side this season would have made any difference to our (so far) poor season.

Do you write the scripts for Powell's after game comments on young players?
Longstaff is 19, of course he has a lot to learn. But for raw talent, skill levels, controlled aggression and spirit he is an excellent prospect. He also has a great engine. He needs game time, hopefully that's what he will get at Hull although I would prefer him to Oliver Holmes and play him at Warrington.

Powell homself said he gave him targets to hit and things to do, and he wasn't doing them so why would he deserve to play first team if he's not doing what he's being asked to do to get in the first team?
People need to lay off Powell for not playing him, he's loaned him out to get game time and this is Longstaffs opportunity to show Powell he means business.

Nothing in it IMO. Just excited to score a second in quick succession, and beating the chest rather than committing to Hull.

To be honest, that's how I saw it.

Young kid in a big game, scored on debut. Got a but carried away, but at least he's bought in to the occasion.

He looked to have a good engine. and good to see how he develops. Defensively caught out for a couple of HKR tries, but more down to lack of knowing the defensive systems than poor misses. Sure that will fix up with a full week with the team
