| I’m ok with Sam.
I’d be commands respect, he’ll get a reaction.
The players are all pros, they all know how to play the game.
Powell seemed to had lost all respect, not only from much of the team and fans, but seemingly the management too.
I don’t think much has to change from our team to start winning again.
I think 12/1 are too big of odds not to make the GF. I expect a Wire win v Leeds and a top 4 finish.

| Well, rose-tinted spectacles maybe, but I'm really beginning to like the bloke a lot. Also he could get Tom to put in a couple of years if he can get in the squad over Dudson.

| Well after 24 hours to think about this my incredulity has subsided.
I've now read/watched a few recent pieces about Sam - interviews with him and the club - and he comes across very well.
Easy to talk the talk, but I'm more than prepared to back him.
Yes it is a gamble in so far as he hasn't coached at this level and some of the senior players are older than him which may present some challenges, but after not getting Holbrooke the 'available' coaches list is quite short and I didn't particularly want most of those mentioned.
A few years down the line and Briers could return but I fervently believe he's better off where he is in the meantime.
Great players don't always make successful coaches but sometimes they do.
Welcome aboard Sam - you've got my backing.

| I have nagging doubts in my head about the appointment. But I'm hopeful it will be a positive move for the club. So we'll back him, give him a chance and strap ourselves in for the rollercoaster ride that is being a Wire fan. Could turn out to be a master stroke or a total disaster!
On a related note, the whole circus feels ripe for a fly-on-the-wall documentary following his progress with Warrington. Could happen!

| In the best case scenario he does well and pee's off to a HC role in the NRL in a couple years. So do we not want to be great for the next decade? Seems we're happy to be just good for 2. Short sighted appointment.

That 'risk' applies to anyone we recruit from Aus. Enjoy his appointment, it will raise our profile at the very least... hopefully it will lead to success on the pitch. If it does then enjoy that and we'll be in a better position to attract another good coach if we have to.

Kerry Katona has just signed up two screenwriters to make a Netflix biopic of her life. So, stranger things 'n' all...
Come to think of it, this club isn't that different to Kerry Katona. Starts off with potential and everyone gets a bit excited over the flashy bits, followed by getting high a few times, then crashing and burning after the faintest whiff of a comeback. Now a dog-eared mess that's spent all its money on trashy bling.
Whoever fixes Kerry's career is the right person to fix us.

We don't need our profile raised. We already have enough eyes laughing at us. We already ARE the circus. Burgess will make that worse, not go away. For such a born winner he only won one GF in his entire playing career. Half of his highlight reels are doing things that will get our players sat in the stands for a good few games these days. Slamming Sam, oy vey.

Well...that certainly gave me food for thought. I was not overly chuffed with the club's decision, but having watched that I feel quite excited now. He certainly has a defined line between friends and the job at hand. There's nothing more important than the game to him, plus by the sounds of it, if you're not putting it in you aint playing. Good Lad!!!
Best start saving up for next year's season ticket

Whoever said there was a sucker born every minute was right. I'm with the guy above who says we're already the circus, this signing does nothing to diminish that and sets us up for more failure and humiliation. Just read what other clubs' fans are saying. What was wrong with keeping our powder dry and giving it a few months to see all other options? Instead we've gone for the Glamour, headline grabbing option that'll likely blow up in our faces. Good lord I hope I'm mistaken but I just can't see it. So, do we need to be patient for another two/three years to buy into and build the Burgess way? Cus I've had enough of seeing what the Powell way did to us. We shouldn't be some sort of coaching experiment. Enough.

Matt, we all have opinions, and watching that documentary has changed mine, and am more than happy to give him a go.
I was never a big fan of Powell and nor were the players, you only had to see their faces when that behind-the-scenes documentary came out. I bet they look a dam site more attentive next time.
Sorry Matt, my glass is half full on this one

| Taking a left-field view:
During the second world war, there was a requirement to get certain missions accomplished quickly using revolutionary methods. What they did was to put together a unit of young, apparently ill-suited persons, all of whom had little experience but plenty of bad history on their records.
However, what these young men did have was specific skills and the right mindset for the missions they had been tasked with. Some of which were said to be unachievable based on the standard at the time. Turns out it did work, against all odds, and they became the SAS.
Since we've tried the standard route and failed many times, I'll back the mish-mash of oddities and watch with interest. They could become folk heroes if they pull it off. Nothing to lose, especially since there are no proven alternatives on the market. If Tony Smith couldn't do it for us with[i that[/i squad in '10-'13, I don't think any traditional coach on the current market could.

We're not allowed to be realists, it means our mental health is lacking apparently. People will buy into anything if someone can talk the talk. How many were ecstatic with Powell signing despite the guy only ever having one brill season in 20 years of coaching lol. Apparently we've hired a born winner, such a winner that 11 months into his current role, that team is sitting 8th in the table. Really instilled his mentality on them there hasn't he.

The alternative was a guy who choked in two semis and has just been let go from a poorly performing NRL team. And he turned us down anyway.
Since no one of any repute is likely to be available for some time, who do we go with? May as well look on the bright side. Have a watch of the two documentaries and you'll see why he may bring something different that we've been missing.

| At the end of the day it doesn't matter what we think. We don't have a say or any influence. It's quite a gamble for sure but you never know it may pay off. It may not. But one thing for sure is it will be interesting.

| Anyone seen any player reactions on Social Media? The emotional response (positive and negative) from us fans is wholly predictable. I'd like to know how the senior players are feeling about the appointment.

That's why I put the SAS answer in there. I was thinking of the opening titles to the A-Team as I was writing that out
On a positive note, when did the A-Team ever lose?
