Slightly dissapointed with this, and the Saints fans must be happy. Puletua is a real robust forward and I'd loved to have seen him in a Wire jersey.

You keep saying this, I think your yardstick for 'really well' may be wrong, really well for how naff he's been before possibly, really well in context to rest of the league - No.

I've watch him in at least 5 games this year and he's done nothing - he's not been awful, he's just been solid, so unless he's been brilliant in the other 7. I'll bet you he's done far less than someone like Solomona who I and many others have criticised heavily on here.

Whilst he is undoubtedly a great player I did have concerns about ourselves signing him on a two year deal given that we are already a team with numerous players nearer the end than the beginning their of careers.

So we have missed out on him; I can console myself that we will have that salary cap space available to either persuade King or Anderson (with a bit of change from that one) to stay and that Saints’ arm has been forced to give Puletua a bigger and longer contract than they were planning to.

Win – win for me. I’m sure when we announce our signing(s) everybody will be happy. And let’s not forget that with the Aussie salary cap going up in 2013 then some of the top younger Aussies may just fancy a year or two in the UK now before the big Aussie bucks arrive.

As ever, Nicky Kiss is spot on. Perhaps some arguments over Soliola or Wilkin for me, but I'd agree with the balance of Wire/Saints. Atkins could push Shenton if form stays good. And Roby/Monas could go either way.

I know its fashionable to talk up Lomax and talk down Myler but for me Myler has been top class this year and is in front of Lomax.

Just heard a rumour that Saints may offer King a contract for the next 2 years at centre.

Unless he qualifies as completely off quota it's hard to see how that is even possible.

He has been playing in the UK since before the new rules on federation players so can have an excemption

The big consensus is he wants to honour this contract then go home, hopefully back to the storm.

Paul totally agree about this being a win-win situation, I'd take Louis anyday! The bit that gets me is that the Aussie salary gap going up in 2013, should'nt it be coming down if not staying the same to ensure that all the home grown talent around is getting a look in.
And before anyone jumps on me, I admit Wire have taken advantage of the overseas quota, but so have nearly all SL teams, and I bet Widnes are already booking flights for more for next year!

I think you've misunderstood. Paul Youane was talking about the salary cap in the NRL going up, i.e. NRL clubs will be able to pay their players more and so less of the big names will want to come over, but they may fancy a year or two here before it goes up. I think you were thinking about the SL overseas quota - this is not going up.
