Mathers has been one of we really wanted to do well cause he has a good attitude and unlike others looked like he cared. Its a shame he couldnt do anything on the pitch. Offers nothing in attack. Has no position sence, cant tackle, cant catch a bomb. If he can find hes leeds form youve got a decent player but if he continues his wigan form he'll most probably be playing in the NL before too long.

i personally dont rate mathers, dont like the fella either after the matt king incident but am wiling to give him a chance now hes our player, hopefully he can play well but until we see how he plays for us i will give him a chance, good luck to him hope he plays well for us.

At Leeds he scored 26 in 87 games, if he can rediscover his form from them days he will give us a very useful attacking weapon from fullback which we currently don't really have and haven't had for a good few years.

Mathers has confidence in Smith and vice versa.

I think he'll do very well.

I think he's better than Riley but has lost his way over the last couple of seasons - a big slice of that due to injury.

It's not the end for Riley by any stretch of the imagination.

May be a different situation regarding Reardon - who we've only seen flashes of quality play - again linked to injury.
I doubt forthcoming off the field issues were at the front of TS's mind, but they may have been at the back of it.

Then again he's stood by others who have had problems whilst at Leeds.

Is Mathers better than Riley?

Yes, but needs to have his confidence rebuilt and TS will do that.

Riley still has a good future though if he continues to knuckle down.

We need a new centre asap. We have Johnson and who?? Grix possibly? Benny's too good as a forward to go back to being a centre. Is there anyone in the reserves who could make the step up?

Centres will be King and Johnson for the forseeable, surely?

Grix, PJ, King, Bridge, VA, Hicks, Then the Reserves centres, Hurst etc all have experience of centre.

Crikey, there's folk on here who'd tell you all day long that Bridge is a centre. Anderson played there for Saints didn't he ?

I'm sure for now, it's not really a problem, there's so many options, and right now PJ has been sensational at right centre.

You'd still be leaving out Penny, two of the above & Reardon if he stays.

Grix has been playing much better than King at 4 recently, so why are people saying King will move back to 4?

Grix has a good step, a dangerous fend and is very strong.

King can catch.

King definitely needs to stay on the wing! I quite like the combination of Grix/King and Johnson/Hicks, not many other options at the moment though to be honest!

What is the injury Mathers has? And how long is he expected to be out for?

Isn't it a hamstring injury ? Think so.

I rated Mathers when he was at Leeds once he went back from that loan with us, he was solid and also really helped to chip in on attack.

At Wigan his confidence hasn't seemed to be there and he hasn't played well, maybe Smith can bring back the best in him, that Grand Final winning fullback.

If we had 'ruined' Danny Orr then he wouldn't be playing well at Harlequins now. He just didn't adapt to life at Wigan as well as the pressures that go with it.

To sugguest we 'ruined' Nigel Wright and that his injury problems were down Wigan are simply idiotic and plain ignorant. Speak to Nigel himself and tell you how appreciative he is of the club and how much money Wigan spent on him to try and get him right.
