| Is there a chance the arrival of Sandow might accelerate the departure of Tony Smith? Rumoured on both sides of the pond that Smith wasn't keen on Sandow the person and his antics and that it was a board-led decision. If there is any friction, which there has been with all of Sandow's previous coaches, would it be Smith that was moved on?

Any such 'rumours' would have been in the press or posted on social media.
Provide a link please.

| When trying to prove he has some kind of inside track, RD spouted some crap about SJM and RD taking recruitment matters away from TS because they'd had enough or something similar, which is also why I posted the quote from Sandow saying it was TS who pretty much made him join.
Don't think for even a minute that TS didn't work with SJM and RD to complete this deal.

If we did sign GI, the "other" fans will still no doubt say he's crap & Phil Clarke won't pick him for his Dream Team (he'll have Iain Thornley in there instead).
For fans that say we are a "small club" and "insignificant", they don't half congregate in this forum and have "expert" opinions on everything Warrington Wolves. If they really didn't give as much of a **** as they say they don't, we wouldn't see them for dust and this forum's garbage meter would be 50-75% better off.

| Slag me off its water off my back!
I heard TS on the radio and if anyone sounded utterly cheesed off that Sandow was on his way, it was him.
That however doesn't mean I have inside knowledge of TS levels of fondness for him. He could be putting a BBQ on for him for all I know, but on the radio he was excited as a sloth come bedtime.

| Bearing in mind that Tony Smith can rival Andy Murray when it comes to sounding excited I think you may have read a little bit too much into that. Was that also the basis for saying the signing was made over his head?

Why would Draper be involved in player recruitment? He has taken over from Gatcliffe and is running the business side of the club.
I'd imagine that approaches are made via agents/managers to Moran, or the other way around, about availability of players and Smith then gets the say on which players we pursue. I cannot envisage any environment where Smith doesn't have the final say on players or where Draper is involved in player recruitment.
Sandow will have been the one that landed due to whatever circumstances but I'm sure that we have made approaches to sign at least two British half-backs and three or four from down-under in addition to Sandow.

I don't think for one second TS didn't play a part in the capture of Sandow, but the signal he sent out I from his radio interview was placid. By the distance and agents involved with the signing I would say SJM was more driven and his involvement and was far more significant to getting the man.
As for Sandow putting it down to TS in "part" every beauty queen comes out with the wants to save the starving children line.

Totally agree.
Interesting at the end of the article regarding "best aussie halfback" vote.
Where is Nat Wood?

Interesting stuff. No doubt he is a Smith type player on the field but definitely not off it. Hope we have some robust contractual terms.

| I couldn't give a stiff pooh about player signing comments
"Oh, the main reason for me coming is Tony Smith". WHAT LOVING ROT
The main reason for him coming, is to get paid big bucks. Let's not kid ourselves.
Do you expect him to say in an interview "I think Smith is a total wazzock. I hate him, and all he stands for". No. He's going to say the correct media savvy soundbites, and have done with it.
Let's just hope he shows his talent on the pitch, doesn't behave like a lady's front pocket, and get himself into trouble every other week.
Hopefully, he'll transform a side that's been on a bit of a slide in the last couple of years, and get us back to where we were.
