12 starting appearances this season though.......
its like a gradual retirement plan that some companies do, isnt it...?

| Quote ="fredie"Great signing of crocker . that was much needed.
Souths should now set their sights on trying to get Crockers ex Storm team mate Matt King for 2010. Apparently he is unhappy in th UK and wants to return to the NRL. He would be perfect next to Best in the centres.
'" Whats so funnny.

The reason Ryan Giggs career has been prolonged is because United have managed his hamstring injury well, over the years especially since Nani and Evre arrived Giggs has been starting on the bench more and more just like in the 2008 Champions league final where he only came on as a sub at the end with just a few minutes remaining.
More often than not Ronaldo and Park usually start wide left and wide right and they switch round during the game, Rooney has also been playing wide left where United have seen some of his best form.
United have always had a massive squad thats full of quality so they can afford to rest Giggs or any other player as they always have cover, can we do the same with Lee Briers by simply resting him on a regular basis when he isn`t even injured to protect his hamstring ?
Can we afford to start Lee Briers on the bench on a regular basis to again give his hamstring a rest ?
Anyway, why do we need Brian Carney who is a RIGHT winger when we have just given Chris Hicks a RIGHT winger a new contract ?

| Colin Best is a good player, he scored stacks for Hull and since he left Hull he's had a good scoring record in the NRL. Similar standard to Hicks.
Regarding Penny going on loan, not sure what this would do, he's played two seasons in the first team so its not like he needs experience of playing in the first team, surely its better he's here working under the guidance of Tony Smith, if that means being in the reserves for a bit then fair enough. If he goes on loan to Salford or whoever he'll just play in a team which loses most weeks, gets targeted, gets slagged off by fans, and will come back to us in a negative mind frame.

| I think they can work with Kev Penny, he does have pace to burn and playing in the reserves in the short term won't do him too much harm. But feel he needs to work with the coaches to improve those areas he lacks in.....every player has areas they can work on.....He's a good lad Kev and derserves the opportunity to continue his development if in the long run that does mean a period out on loan, so be it.....as long as it does develop him....He is too good a prospect to let go altogether.....Still feel he was the scape goat in those early loss's warrington had........

Try looking at some of the trys he has scored in SL, people are too quick to right a player off, just because they have a little bad spell, no one would be playing SL at all if we did that with every player

If you don't think Kevin Penny has pace to burn, who in RL do you think has?
Another clueless post.

I've never been a particular fan of Kevin Penny but the one thing he does have is the one thing you can't coach, that being speed.
Tony Smith has a good reputation of bringing young players through to the first team at Leeds. I'd like to see him work with Penny for a good 12 months.
Personally I would have liked to see him in the squad for this weekends game against Fev, would have been a chance for him to stake a claim.

Bit of a ridiculous comment, Kevin Penny has many faults with his game, but his pace isn't one of them. The bloke is probably one of the fastest players in the game.

What else would youngster with the most potential usually mean? Most youngster are USUALLY local.
