We've only sold out twice this season, against Wigan and Saints. Hardly seems worth filling in the corners until we can do it against Bradford, Leeds and both the Hulls.

I don't think that table suggests we are the best away supporters in SL, more other teams have a higher attendance average when we do travel. It could be argued they are the same thing, but I don't think they are.

Could be that home fans want to see a decent team for a change when we're away.

Another thing to consider when comparing 2009 to 2010 attendances is how many away fans have come each year as teams such as Bradford and Leeds brought alot less this year than they did last year

A few points

1. I can't see it being financially viable for the club to fill in the corners or dramatically increase capacity for your average Joe until season ticket sales hit 10,000 for 2 years running. Even on the back of the first silverware for 18 years (35 for anything decent) we had what 7,500 season tickets this year?

2. The stadium brings in additional revenue (semi finals, National League Finals Day) without selling out so 5,000 extra spaces aren't going to make a difference there.

3. "Glory Hunters". This term really vexes me off. What was our average attendance in 89/90? I would suspect 5,000 tops. And how many went to Wembley that year? 20,000 plus? A 4-fold increase from the "Glory Hunters" as this year too. As has been said, not everyone can afford or is able to go week in week out & the key is to attract these fans to come & watch regularly when possible. Fact of sport though is that you will get more fans turning up to sporting finals & they contribute to the atmosphere - perhaps the people moaning would prefer only to offer tickets for Wembley or OT or the homecoming parades to Season Ticket Holders, one ticket per person?

One thing that the Board will have an eye on "if/when" the glory dies down like it has done at Wigan, Bradford and it is starting to do at Saints is ensuring that they have had pay back on the additional investment. Wigan have had a good few barron years with a big stadium. We have had barron years with a smaller stadium and are now looking to add capacity. The additional costs need to be recovered before the glory ends otherwise they will not spend the extra cash.

they need to do something with the South stand, they are constantly getting told don't stand on the yellow painted areas and there is no-where else to stand!

join south and west? this could just be the start see if they could fill it out with this corner then add corners depending if we still getting high attendances.

There's always room in the middle of certain blocks, but people always want to be close to the end of each block so they can get to the bar or toilet quicker

Agreed, if you want to stand on the end, let people get past you.

West stand- main home
East stand- away
South lower- standing home
South higher- Old east home and new corporate supporters
North- same

So if the east was the away, what happens to people who want to sit behind the post? you could make the west stand seating then.

I think Saints average was 11,027 in 2009 and we're 10,959 so far this year (a whole 2 fans per game bigger than Wire

) with one game to go: a crowd of 11,856 tomorrow (a certainty IMO) would see us improve on our 2009 average if my hungover maths is right.

We're doing pretty well to average 11k in that dump, hopefully we'll be up to 13k+ in the new gaff.

No point adding space for 'normal' spectators. Don't sell out all games.
Add plenty of corporate boxes, where the money is. Who cares if they understand the game or know who Reilly is.

Plenty of space over both the South and North to do something like what FC Groningen have done and put skyboxes in.



Could get about 40 extra hospitality boxes that way.

Going from about ten boxes to forty would be a bit optimistic!

Our crowds are now good, but not good enough to justify financial outlay on altering the stadium. We seem to have 9-10,000 fairly committed regulars, and the balance are the occasional fans who comes to see the 'big' games plus away support. We need to be posting all attendances over 12,000, with regular sell-outs versus Pies, Saints, Leeds, possibly even Hull ( big support but a long way away ).

No point at all in going for 'machismo' and building for pure speculation.

we're virtually at the 'waiting list' stage for East stand season tickets. There's only the odd single seat here and there plus a few on the very front row.

How many times have saints sold out this year?, yet they are building a bigger stadium than the hj.
If we expanded to 16-18000 then i'm sure we could average 14000. At the moment, especially for big games you have no chance of a walk up crowd as they know they won't get in. Strike while the iron is hot Gatcliffe!
How about a Bulls style offer (but obviously not so ridiculously cheap) £100 to stand £150 to sit if we can get 11000 season tickets.

Sometimes people are put off doing a 'walk up' because they think they'll get there and there will be no tickets available and turned away, so they don't come because they didn't buy earlier in the week.

Some people are just spontaneous and turn up last minute, plus i'd hazard a guess that we are not FILLING because the away end isn't full, East stand (bar the corporates)and South stand are usually full most games.
Extending south to east or north to east would be a good idea for the home fans who don't want to stand in the away end.

At this moment I think I would settle for people being turned away and the SOLD OUT signs being put up every other week, rather than extend and have large empty pockets around the ground.

I think we need to just calm down, take it steady and continue doing what we are doing. Then look at it in a couple of seasons.

Just taking a backwards step a minute isn't this the sort of thing we hate Saints and Wigan for? Y'know weve won a couple of cups so now were to big a club for our stadium? Not so sexy anymore?
