It certianly helped, would you not agree? All the attributes you mention there are what Matt King has. Ok, answer me this then, how is it King has played for Australlia but Richards hasn't, or why has Richards never played SOO but King has?
I suppose it's all based on opinion. But, with our current team I wouldn't swap King for Richards, no chance.

I'd love to have Richards in any Wire team - he is awesome - goal kicking or not !!!
That's like saying you wouldn't want Hodgson in the team on current form if he wasn't kicking the goals!! So agree with above!
King and Richards on one side of the pitch together at Wigan is scary - I hope it never happens!
I just hope the stick that some wire fans gave him at Quins a few years back isn't sticking in his mind!

I never said King is better because he's played international and origin rugby. I was posing the question, why, if Richards is so good has he never done this. Richards is a great player and I'd have him at Warrington in a heartbeat in our squad if we didn't have Hodgson, but I wouldn't sacrifice King [ifor[/i Richards, that's just my opinion.

Fair enough thats your opinion i'm not arguing. IMO we have the best winger in SL and you have the other (Joel Monaghan)

| King v Richards is one of those things where both players are close enough that club bias means you tend to prefer the one you have got.
I am a bit on the fence with this, Richards with his goalkicking and also his ability to punt the ball huge distances up field gives him a lot of strings to his bow, and he is also up there with King in one of King's strengths which is rising above the defenders and taking the high ball. Where King has an advantage over Richards is his power, not just coming from size, there are big guys that don't punch their weight (Nathan McAvoy) and small guys who punch above their weight (Des Drummond), King I think is a tall guy who actually punches above his weight, considering he's not a tricky stepper like Davies or Bateman he seems to get through to the line a lot and when he's from close range he doesn't get stopped. But then Richards is also strong enough to be a very effective finisher close to the line, he doesn't get bundled into touch.
I reckon if you asked in Australia who was better more people would say King and the rep honours King had would support that. But I think it's a very close call and possibly just possibly I would be tempted to take Richards in a swap for King.

| how can some Aussie be in stitches over Richards getting Man of steel....
Isnt Richards West tigers record points scorer (in a season) in his season there..a season that coincidently they were premiers.
They've been nowhere near since and coincidently Wigan have, hardly something to laugh about. but then an Australian would laugh if he got his own tinkle stuck in a mangle. (Jo, Mrs, or the machine used to dry out clothes in the olden days take your pick.)

I said he wouldn't have won it if he wasn't a kicker. He wouldnt, the end.

| Yeah, Richards would surely have been pushing for rep honours had he stayed at Wests, it wasn't as if he was pushed into the reserve side, or not scoring tries for fun. He was a key player in that team and was a huge signing when he came over.
As for my thinkin on the Richards/King debate, there aren't many things King can do that Richards can't, can you say the same the other way round?

Play centre or even second row effectively ? King can, Pat can't
If we are judging them purely as wingers then it is close, and with the kicking, Pat gets it. But as a player king is imo the more rounded. He is as good a winger, can play centre to international standard and is playing very well atm at second row.
Pat just can't (or so far hasn't ) done that...

I don't see why he couldn't play 2nd row, he runs it in hard and straight and always makes good yards. To be frank we've just never had to resort to using him in the 2nd row, we're pretty well stocked in that area.
The one year that Pat played centre he was poor, but the whole team was poor and even when he played on the wing he didn't look great, he was low on confidence. However i see no reason why he couldn't. ATEOTD though, they are both wingers, so we should just compare them at that position!

In that case, play stand off and scrum half and prop all at once.
He hasn't coz we have other players who do that, but if we had to use King in all of those positions at once then he'd be awesome at them. All at the same time.
Oh and King is a centre/winger and now /second row
DOH!

My bad, it wasn't a player, but the Aussie fans, just found the link now. It was on the Trent Waterhouse thread we had on here a couple of weeks ago (found [url=http://viewtopic.php?f=21&t=495107&hilit=Trent+Waterhouse&start=30here[/url), page 3, St pete's post.
