| Quote ="the flying biscuit"any notion that Asotasi does anything better than sims is nonsense.
Sims shows the game means something he makes last ditch tackles that would stop a midfield break, Ive seen more than one occasion sims hanging on to someone by one arm and being the reason that a player has been stopped.
he'll also do that while sweating like a lover because he's putting in a good stint in attack and defence.
Asotasi has missed midfield tackles, plenty of goal line tackles, and doesnt even get too excited about making tackles generally, all in 14 to 16 minutes of play!!! he should be impeccable. masoe did three 6 minutes stints against us but actually made a midfield bust and scored a try.
I will say till the end of time Asotasi is our worst ever overseas signing, and I saw Adam Doyle.'"
I am just dealing in bare stats here but:
Asotasi Average Gain 7.47m with a missed tackle percentage of 3.44%
Sims Average Gain 6.34m with a missed tackle percentage of 5.41%
Therefore if Roy did more game time he would be more effective... on paper. Make of that what you will.

| Just wondering, but if we were to identify a lower tier RU player who had the potential (say of the Mike Nicholas genus) but was unproven and 20+ , how could we test him or bring him up to speed? Is this another problem with the current limitations of the under 19s set up?

| Ashton was top tackler versus leeds with 44 ,always in the thick of it ,given its his 1st season in super league and the amount of work him and Hilly are having to do ,I think he's been a great signing ,hope he stays for a long time

Looks inevitable that top teams are going to sort this themselves with some kind of reserve league ,dual reg isn't working ,coaches want control over their players ,position and game time , U19s ,returning injured players and some signings need a steppingstone before being thrust into this pretty intense new format

There was a lad training with the U19s for a couple of weeks, a RU from Dubai of South Sea Island heritage who was a really big unit but as he was top age they didn't get around to giving him a game. The Reserve Grade would be ideal for 'AN Other' trial players.
Just like the old Slalom Lager days!

No percentages or averages there, I had to get my calculator out.
The point was Asotasi is not as bad as people make him out to be. If he could sustain his effort over a longer period it would be successful. Watching him against Leeds when he first came on he made four consecutive tackles (two from marker) but then rather went out like the proverbial candle in the wind.
Makes you wonder what the hell has gone on with this engine.

| Watching Friday's game , I thought Asotasi raised his game and speculated that he didn't want ex-teammate Sandow to see how bad he'd become

| For that reason I want Asotasi on with Sims. Ashton will motivate the hell out of big Roy.
I want to give Roy the opportunity to earn a respectful end to what by an large was a fantastic career. One last hurrah from Roy. Get him on from minute one with Sims packing on right behind him.
Playing Sims as a back rower will increase the minutes we can get from him, giving us longer on field motivation and most importantly greatly increasing the size of the pack.

Or the more time he'd play the worse those stats would get as he fatigues more.

| There's news of Corey Paterson set to leave. He's a big unit, fiery and has looked good this season (including v us in the opening game). Salford fans seem to rate him highly. I think he
would be worth trying to sign. Any thoughts?

Another overseas player. When are we (as a game) ever going to learn?

He would effectively be a swop for Asotasi who at present, alongside Sims, are our only overseas forwards!

Saints v Leeds in the cup semi.
11 overseas players, is that what you want for the game?
Hull and Hull KR merging their academies whilst each having about 6 overseas payers in their teams.

A rugby league player is a rugby league player. Whether he's from overseas or Over Hulton. There are rules in place saying that you can only has a certain amount of overseas players and we all stick to that. I have no problem if teams are at the limit or have none. There are only two leagues worth taking notice of in the whole world in our sport so any player from anywhere should not be discriminated against to get the opportunity to play in either one of those leagues, because where else are they going to go? Chile? Jamaica? Norway? Russia? just so a homegrown but possibly worse player can play instead?
We already have around 22 homegrown players at Wire in and around the first team squad, around 11 of which are from our own Academy (that was just off the top of my head I might have miscounted by the odd one). And that's true ofa few teams. Yet our competition is substandard compared to the other decent league worldwide.
So why not drive the quality up by getting some better overseas players in?

Because then you won't win the homegrown cup!
If Gary Wheeler is what this country produces then I say sod the quota. But then there is the likes of Roy....

| I've just properly counted and we have 24 of 28 first team squad players who are homegrown at Wire and 15 are club trained with us. Just FOUR overseas players out of 28. I'm absolutely sure we can just squeeze in a couple more without disgruntling the rugby league community Rogues!

| Let's get more average home grown youngsters...they're great!! Let's bloody win a grand final by hook or by crook and we might kick on. The league is average and we're in the perfect position to rise above it yet seem content to wallow along with the dross.
