| Thing is austin has had a 50% fit bmm playing outside him for 2 years, he's been a big let down.
Yeah we've had the occasional barge over off an inside ball but for the most part it's been a tip on, and bmm gets tackled by a half back/centre combo.
And then you were into the roulette of him giving a penalty away in possession

| Quote ="Barbed Wire"The right side is a shambles. I’ve said on other threads about the vulnerability that having such a passive back rower brings to a team. And the centre, be it Mamo or Wrench so far or even Gelling last year, is there to plug a gap in the defensive line. They offer nothing in terms of a threat.
For as average as Austin has been, there needs to be some work on that side if we’re ever going to make genuine attempt at the GF. Inglis, if even half the player he used to be, will make a huge difference, but that back rower needs to act like a bulldozer in attack and really make defenders stop and take notice to create some room for the outside men.
I’d consider letting Robson have a go, or Longstaff. Both young, but not necessarily raw. They’re talented players. And all you need them to do is run that lead line at 100 miles an hour and defend for all you're worth. Hughes, good pro and all, but is a poor mans Ben Harrison. Lots of effort, good defender, but on an edge he’s just in the way.'"
Robson on loan to widnes.

| When you watch Liam Farrell at Wigan he runs that same line constantly and has done for years. Genuinely can anyone ever remember Hughes hitting a line and breaking a tackle?

Perhaps it’s not completely the running angle of the backrower, but some class from the passer to put him in the pocket. Even that said, I wouldn’t think twice about swapping Hughes for Farrell, and I like Hughes.

Liam Farrell has been a class act for years. Not many have been as good as him. He has got pace and knows how to use it.

| Quote ="Alffi_7"I think we're judging based off what they have done previously, Henderson was a coach I was pleased we brought in, as he had his London team playing some good stuff. Conversely Richard Agar had been sacked from Hull FC & Wakey and you couldn't find many fans that had a good word to say about him, so that impression was carried over to us.
Truth is, we don't really know what assistant coaches do day to day, and we don't know what influence they are having in the backroom, Henderson went from a head coach to an assistant, Agar went from Assistant to head coach of Leeds and a challenge cup winners medal - he can't be that bad?'"
Yes - agree with this.
I can easily imagine that Henderson has been frustrated with us.
He did well at London and I imagine he could see himself stepping up from assistant at Wire.
I hope he gets a shot at SL as first team coach.
If it works out, we could always have him back in a few years - should he want to come!

Hughes is a Price captain, I'll be interested to see if Powell keeps a) that appointment and b) him. I said in another thread, Powell seems to like dynamic second rowers.

I dont know about dynamic but he definitely has had back rowers that are forwards and aggressive.
I hadn't considered this before but you wouldn't classify currie as a Powell type forward either

Mike McMeeken is a very skilful SR (now at Catalan). I would think he is similar to Currie.

| Do you think the attacking dynamic on the left would change much if King played second row and Currie played centre?

The strength of that partnership is that the are both big and fast with good hands close to the line and in/post contact. They feed off each other as one creates enough of a threat to create a 1 v 1 for the other. Swapping them wouldn’t have too much of an impact, although I would say King is better defensively wider. It’s a tough place to defend, two or three in from the edge.

| For me Hughes just has to do more. He isn't the silkiest, he's not your typical ball playing second rower type like Currie so for me he has to be a workhorse type like Ben Westwood where he's making 50/60 tackles and 150 meters a game.
Currie made almost double as many tackles as Hughes against Hull on Sunday. Philbin made more also and he must have only played 40/50 minutes?

From stats I have seen Over the 3 league games
Hughes has made 98 tackles and Currie 101.
Hughes has made 319 metres and Currie 286.
Hughes has made 4 tackle busts and Currie 1.
Hughes has made 1 offload and Currie 7
Not seen the Hull stats.

One would argue our current incumbent prefers industrius 2nd rows. Safe runs, little offloads, drive in.

See above, perfect industrius 2nd row. Keep hold, head down. Surprised at his tackles tbh, would've thought he would be higher.
A nice figure would be to see what the extra meters/advantage the offloads gave us

He was the best back rower in the league then for me alongside John Bateman.

I think he’s more important to a team than Bateman (when at his best I mean). Currie has the rugby brain, the pace and footwork and a decent kicking game. He spots the cutout ball pretty well too. He fits the mould a 80s/90s ball playing loose forward, and with the whole package I’m surprised he’s never wanted to be captain.

He would have killed it down under as well pre injury. His style would have fitted like a glove in the NRL.

| Still time for Currie. He’s been around for a a while but he’s still relatively young. Westwood only found his way into the pack after 5 or 6 years of being a pro, and only really hit the big time after that. Currie started early, but nothing is stopping him pushing on well into his 30’s. Plays with skill rather than thrashing his body about, plus he missed a lot of rugby from 2016 to 2018.
He’s probably 26 or 27 now, could see him in the international frame for 5 years, SL for 7 or 8 maybe? Lots of time left to make a stamp.

It is a superb second row partnership, it was proved last year. There aren't many good centres around though at the minute. We would need to sign 2 if we want that combination. It will be interesting to see what Powell does there.
