Why not bring in Trueman and play Dean alongside him?
Even though I’ve seen nothing from Dean to suggest he could make it in SL.

| Quote ="Philth"I wonder how much influence Powell will have on the below list of out of contract players and if any will get a second chance
Greg Inglis, Tom Lineham, Toby King, Blake Austin, Chris Hill, Jason Clark, Jake Mamo, Sitaleki Akauola, Danny Walker, Samy Kibula, Matty Ashton, Nathan Roebuck, Riley Dean, Eribe Doro
King is a cert unless he's got.NRL aspirations
For me I'd go Mamo, Roebuck, Dean, Walker, Ashton
Maybes - Austin (pending if he gets his mojo back) & Akoala (shoot me, I've got a soft spot for the big fella and frankly don't value Price's opinion on him too much). Though if the latter hardly plays this year for anyone, I'll concede it's then likely too big a gamble'"
Part of me wants to let austin go, unless.he goes through contract year style form, even then I wouldn't give him another marquee contract

| Well I for one thinks it’s great that we’ve gone for a homegrown coach who’s done a pretty good job at Cas with limited reserves and what I like about him is he comes across with a bit of passion and grumpiness as seen with the bottle throwing last season whereas Price comes across as though he’s going through the motions so whatever your views on his appointment let’s give the guy a chance instead of writing him already.

To be fair, he doesn’t usually walk across the pitch to get back to the dressing room at Cas. He chose to do it so he could give Eden the death stare.

I wouldn’t keep Austin on anything like his current contract barring a revelation season.
To be clear I have no idea what his contract is worth, I just mean there should be a relative reduction if he stays.

Rather, don’t assume that what you read on social media reflects the views of the supporter base as a whole (good or bad).

Dean's just the next name up in the Academy so fans decide he's the future, we've had this from Duffy to Hulse to Durbin to GO'B to Patton. He may make it, he may not, you can't tell till you've seen how these guys handle SL.
Powell brought Burrow and McGuire through at Leeds and Truman through at Cas. Also Marc Sneyd and Luke Gale had their breakthroughs at Cas under Powell, so he knows what the benchmark is for a halfback that's going to make an impact and has brought guys along in the past, so if Dean is good enough he should have a good opportunity with Powell.

From what I've seen of Dean so far in his academy and limited first-team appearances, he's at least on a par with O'Brien. Arguably with a bit more footwork and size. O'Brien is probably the only half-back we've produced since SL started who can be classed as 'good enough' for the average SL side.
If Dean is even just slightly better than O'Brien, I'd have confidence in Powell getting him to a standard good enough for us ('good enough' in the sense that going forward there won't be many 'star' half-backs available in SL).

It's fair enough if Cas fans are ed off.
If I told the missus that I was going to leave her at the end of 2021, left her to speculate for a couple of weeks on whether I've got a new bird lined up afterwards, then announce who the new one is, and leave her wondering whether I'm going to bring the cat across with me, and then reassure her that I'm fully focused on her for the rest of the year, does she thank me for my contributions to the relationship over the years we've been together and wish me all the best for the future or does she say "pack your bags and go now, I'm sick of your moaning and negativity, good luck with that jumped up tart, lets see if you can ever satisfy her...cos you never got there with me"

| I can understand why Cas fans would be vexed based on emotions, but in reality isn't this just the professional way to conduct business? It's no secret there are some post-Covid changes coming to all clubs, and if I was a top coach I'd want to secure a 3 year deal at the one club that has the money and a reputation for not sacking coaches half-way through a season. After all, he isn't bailing out half-way through his second season after winning them the title. He's had 8 great years and things are going a little stale, just like us with Smith.
Keeping this above board and out in the open also keeps the fans off the respective clubs' backs, because if both have mediocre seasons then the fans know there'll be a guaranteed shake-up at the end of the year.

Im certainly not disliking Warrington. I genuinely hope and think he will do well. I firmly believe he is the best coach in the league and I think he will have more tools to do the job. Marquee finances, new stadium,.better training facilities. If he does do well then maybe he will finally get a crack at the england role.

Hulse?
I thought he was a mature amateur signing from either Woolston Rovers or Crossfields, pretty sure it was Woolston and he played for them vs Wire in the CC round.
