| I must be alone. I care nothing about what Jon Wells thinks and won’t echo him.
Good win from Wire and the forwards dominated. You can only beat what’s in front of you and Wire defended that well, a coach, rather disrespectfully, lost his job.

| The positive I take from this is that Hull were touted as possible Champions elect before the start of the season by many. We aren't great, but that's one less 'top team' ahead of us and also one tough away fixture that's been dealt with.
I don't think there was that much between two awful teams yesterday, but it was the psychological blow of Currie not giving up on Tuimavave that turned the game. That showed we do have some defensive desire even if we can't put together a decent attacking show.

| Price slamming King's tackle on the 1st tackle just tells me that the players want to play a completely different style of rugby to what they're being coached. Kicking on the 1st is a bit dumb and I shouted one or two expletives at the telly when he did it but that's not the point. The point is the players clearly want to try different things and go off the cuff but they're being held back. For the love of god, release the shackles and let them play.
1st half we were woeful. 2nd half was a lot better, still awful in parts but a lot more smarter and a lot more confident to back ourselves I thought.
I think we really needed to play a team like Hull last night, if it was any other team we would have got spanked. You could see us trying things in earlier rounds but when you're against teams like Wigan, Saints, Leeds or even a Wakefield; (who always turn up on their home patch.) they're teams who will get up off their line and take space off you. If you're a team like us down on confidence, being restricted and not being able to complete moves you're trying to set up, you're going to end up with your heads down and it's a hard place to come back from.
A close win over Cas and then playing that shower last night will do us favours I think. As we got into the second half, with Hull were hanging back and looking lost, it gave us the confidence to try the plays we've probably been practicing on the training ground and we've been yet to see. As the second half went on, the more shift plays that actually stuck and ended up with a break or half break, more confidence come from it.
Not a great game and not a good performance by any means and we really do need to kick on and train harder now than before. We need to be switched on and most definitely can not rest on a back to back win like we usually do. However, but it looks a bit more positive besides the poor opposition.
From the last two weeks we now know we can mix it in a tough game and go set for set and we've also seen that there is a skillset still there in our halves and that they can actually shift the ball and run lines.

| I saw another gritty performance, if we can add to that with our halves showing control behind a dominant pack we will do very well I feel.

| Price is only interested in our defensive performance, he says so every time he is interviewed. After the Saints game he focussed purely on the nil rather than anything else.
He'd be delirious if we won every game 6-0.
Yes, defence wins matches but there is a compromise to be had; offence puts bums on seats.

I would concur with this just adding "and low in confidence" after the gritty performance bit. Having said that I am still slightly mystified as to where our confidence went after two good performances against Wigan and Saints. Not sure the players completely buy into Prices tactics. Can't deny that the first half was absolutely appalling but we got better in the second half and will hopefully continue on an upward curve.
As an aside what a disgraceful way to sack your coach. Felt for Radders during the game but it is as they say a results based business. Price is a lucky man

| One of the big differences was Clarke coming on at dummy half, Danny Walker needs to work on his passing, I’m sure he will improve, but it really disrupts the attack.
Widdop will definitely improve, hopefully the goal kick means he will now be doing more kicking in general play. Austin’s 40/20 was a cracker as was DW’s attempt.
The “almost” try by Ratchford shows a developing relationship.
Promising without getting too carried away.
On another note Houghtons face at the start of the match suggested he was not a happy camper, clearly distracted, I wonder if he knew what was coming? Pearson totally graceless, could have left the announcement till this morning, it felt like Agar was re living his worst nightmare in the studio.

It's funny I was talking to my sister the other day, and this is based of the years of the Challenge Cup Final's the 3 Finals in 4 years and how I would love to see that style of play with better defence and for me Price cannot deliver that.
Yes a fair few of the players from then are not in the team anymore but the team we have is capable of it, those were some exciting games to watch every time we played because you didn't know what you were going to get.
Since Price has come in, it's "Defend, defend, defend" with a small amount of attack, it's boring and doesn't get anywhere.
I know the commentary team last night were saying not so many Warrington fans made the trip because of the "Human Malware" going around, but personally I think most people didn't want to make the trip because it was a Thursday night and they didn't want to waste there time going to watch a amatuer performance and I cannot blame them if that is the case.
It will be interesting to see the attendance numbers for the next home game if they don't get forced to play behind closed doors.

Is it just me or does it seem to take an age for him to pass it? Quick PTB, on the front foot then he steps up, bends down, grabs the ball, steps his foot out, looks up, stands up, then passes. It takes FOREVER.
It's also blatantly obvious which way the ball is going because the foot he sticks out is the way its going.

we were all calling for price to get the sack the other day and suggesting we bring Wayne in. The exact same style of coach but actually gets an attack out of his team as well.
The reason we've never won a GF is because as good as we were with TS we weren't structured defensively nor were we methodical in attack. Like it or lump it but the style of play Price wants us to play is NRL, High percentage, play-off winning, final winning Rugby.
The only problem is Price seems to be good at coaching Defence but not so much Offence.
If Price can get our attack firing I'm not bothered about winning 16-0 every week if it wins us a GF.

| I can understand fans wanting to see fast free flowing attacking rugby but I think the team needs to build a strong platform first. Concentrating on defence is certainly not very exciting, but nobody loses a game if they nil the opposition. If they get into a routine of playing a tight defence it gives players the confidence that they have the structures and will more than likely take home the points as well. Then slowly introduce a bit more risk into their play. The SL trophy is a knock out competition for roughly the top half of the teams, so it doesn't actually start until we have played ? 26 games. So plenty of time to develop a bit of attacking flair as long as we pick up the points along the way.
That does assume SL will not be disrupted this year (unlikely imo) and that SP is capable of developing the tactics and can in his words " throw a bit of shape" at the opposition (not hopeful on that either).

Top teams can manage both. Why can't we?

Leeds +120
Wigan +84
Saints +65

Fair to add: good performance by Toby King, clever finish by Lineham to avoid being bundled into touch

So are we, bar an upgrade from Patton to Widdop, it's the same side
Price wants to bore the opposition (and us speccies), into submission.
No good for the speccy that wants to be entertained. If I want result rugby, I'll read it in the paper, the following morning.

| We ought to have beat Pies with 12 men.
Beat Saints
Beat Cas
Beat Hull
These were the 4 favoured teams plus ourselves.
Where is the threat for 2020?...Leeds??
Perhaps we underestimate how good Wire actually are.

The attacking play is the area that SP doesn't seem capable of delivering. Its hardly surprising he knows about defence because he comes from the NRL, but Wire seem pretty clueless when they get within 20 yards of the opposition line.
But I think the point is that early doors, Wire may be best focussing on defence and playing low risk until they get a few games under their belt and a bit of confidence. The side has been disrupted at the start of the season; Gelling has come in...and gone out, to be replaced by a novice. Widdop didn't appear for the first two games, Hill managed to get a three week holiday on the naughty step and we moved Ratchford to SO and brought in Matty Ashton...who then got injured. So why not try and keep a settled side, play low risk football and concentrate on defence. Then start to move the ball around and take a few risks when they gain a few points and a lot more confidence. (Not that I think SP will actually be able to deliver that).

| The thing is, if you have a great defence like we have(bar the Leeds fiasco)then you should be willing to try all sorts in attack and not worry too much about making a mistake as your defence will back you up. Does price not get this?

| Kings offload for the widdop try was special. I like him because he is prepared to try things and wants to play what he sees in front of him. Ideally not on tackle 1 though unless it's a much better chance that what was there last night.
