Just thought I'd add that I noticed that the Twitter account for the official app (here: https://twitter.com/WarringtonApp) makes no mention of "Wolves" in it's page name or bio. That is all.

| Can we at least get this right if we are going to use our original name please? We are THE WIRE. Not The Wires, it's in the singular, always has been, and we are all Wire fans. The original name was 'Wirepullers,' for fairly obvious reasons, and was later shortened to what we have now.
NOW THE WIRE!

| I'm sure I had a blue silk effect scarf with primrose thin cord tassels which I bought from the club souvenir shop that said "The Wires" on it.

| The official nickname was always "The Wire", but a nickname should be exactly that - how people come to refer to you. "Wires" is equally as established in that respect, so (The) Wire/Wires is fine by me.
On a related note, I noticed on Friday that Warrington Town have a new badge that no longer has "The Wire" written on it. As this appears to have coincided with the real Wire reintroducing merch with it on, have Town relinquished the copyright?

| WTFC bought the copyright to "The Wire" and had it on their badge up until recently. This was obviously despite the fact that they were commonly referred to as "Yellows".

Interesting. Who was the previous owner of this copyright from whom WTFC purchased it?

| Quote ="silver2"The wolf on the coat of arms signifies the county of Cheshire and is derived from the arms of Hugh Lupus (Lupus means 'wolf' in Latin), the First Earl of Chester. Personally, I still regard Warrington to be a Lancashire town therefore the Wolf doesn't apply. Cmon the Wire.'"
I think the wolf on the Warrington Coat of Arms appeared post 1974 when the gnomes of Whitehall decided that Warrington should be in Cheshire to make Cheshire a viable entity after deciding that Stockport, Hyde etc should be part of Greater Manchester and The Wirral part of Merseyside.
The River Mersey was historically the Lancs/Cheshire boundary but, with the building of the Ship Canal through the Mersey basin, the Ship Canal became the boundary. The completion of the Ship Canal and the canalisation of the Mersey more or less coincided with Warrington RLFC establishing themselves at, what would prove to be, their home for 110 years. A ground that, from the posts on this site, holds many happy memories for us all.
Call me an old fart but, as far as I am concerned, I am a Warringtonian, a Lancastrian and a Wire. If using a wolf mascot to promote the club brings in extra revenue all well and good but
it is equally obvious from this thread that, to the fans, Warrington RLFC will always be The Wire.

| At the risk of appearing pedantic myself can I point out that the trade after which the club and it's supporters derive their nickname is that of WIREDRAWING.
Wirepuller is a colloquial euphemism for someone who engages in sexual self satisfactory practices or American political malpractice and used to be a term used by supporters of other teams to deride Warrington, Notably Ray French.

That was how it was explained to me many years ago, we were known as the Wire Drawers from the trade whence it came and to the amusement of opposition fans Wire pullers, needless to ask why it was shortened to Wire.
The old press used Wire as opposed to Warrington in their match reports all readers would instantly align Wire with Warrington.

| I wonder what other fans views are on us with regards to this? (cue a few funny ers calling us "y"...)
Do they call us "Wire" or "The Wire" still? Even with opposition fans I don't recall hearing them call us "Wolves" or "The Wolves".
It doesn't sound right or sit right with me when Sky say "Wolves" or "The Wolves". I always pull my face and think 'ooh, don't call us that!'

nothing is as funny as 'doing it the Wigan way.' It's asking for trouble.
