Without wanting to sound a knob. Leeds had pace in their backs with Burrow and McGuire, but without Sinfield's kicking/passing, they wouldn't have been half as good. Not sure who will replace this aspect of Briers' game, unless we're to announce a signing.

Well it had to come sometime soon, just sad that he couldn't bow out a GF winner. There are an entire generation of Wire fans who have never seen a Warrington side without Lee in it. I would suggest that the vast majority on this Site are in that category.

So sorry for him he never won a grand final, so glad we took at least one from him.

In my eyes he goes down as a real legend, a pantomime villain you just love to hate.

I wish the best of luck to him in all that lies before him, a great rugby brain and creative thinker, I hope he passes that on to a select few, but not against MY team.

I read all of it. He's been there through thick and thin but life goes on. Onward and upward and all that. We're not used to legends leaving Warrington but you have to look at some of the great players of the past from other teams. Players leave, but the club goes on. Only the fans remain constant.

Fantastic player, fantastic career but, now is the right time to move on from Lee Briers.
I predict Rich Myler will finally become a more dominant player next season alongside the gifted Stefan Ratchford.
Gaz O'Brien provides good backup in the halves, Warrington fans should be excited about Matty Russell taking over at fullback, a great talent and still only 20.

Gutted! Makes the grand final loss seem even worse now! Thanks for the great memories Lee, its going to be weird watching the wire without you in the team!

Absolutely gutted, was looking forward to really enjoying his last year next season. He was the shining light in some pretty average teams over the years.

At least he got some reward in his latter years with Challenge Cups wins and GF appearances.

One player is never bigger than the team but Lee Briers comes very close to being just that.

Whilst he's a big loss to the club and the game lets not forget, we played without him for long periods last season and played well. Loved the south stand singing "we're ""rubbish"" without Briers"

Bee a great player. Sad to see him retire and even worse as it's not on his terms. I always wished we'd see Lee back in the red vee of saints.

Lee Briers IMO is the last of a dying breed of halfbacks. He's was old school, very clever and cheeky.

I'm sure Lee will be great asset as a coach but will be a massive massive loss for you on the field.

Knew the day would come when he would have to retire but nevertheless still gutted.

I only started going to matches in 2003 and Lee has always been Warrington to me.

As others have said he was a character and love him or not he was a great player and fantastic servant to Wire.

Lee is already on the coaching staff as Assistant Coach with the Under 19s and has been since the end of March.

He is already proving to be a great asset to the club and I am certain that he will carve out yet another excellent career to compliment the great playing career that he has enjoyed

I recently chastised people on here for the over-use of the "legend" tag, but in Lee's case it was fully justified, and his points in a career total will, in all probability, never be bettered so he can take his place alongside the true P&B legends.

Not only a terrible loss for Wires, but for the game in general. Half backs like him simply aren't breaking through anymore, or if they are they are being turned into hulking halves-cum-hookers who can kick and pass a bit and have all impetuous and innovative skill drummed out of them.

I hope his presence on the coaching staff helps - if he can coach players to do what he did half as well, then we'll have some pretty tasty future half-backs in the P&B.

One of the last genuine halves. Rhythm and tempo play a big role in games, and very few can control that. Lee was one who could. Always looked like he had time and room. Fantastic player, servant and ambassador for Warrington and Wales alike. I'm sure he will continue to provide entertainment for the game as a coach.

His Twitter is full of best wishes from current and former players which speaks volumes in how respected he is within RL...
