Good post Slim. I spent 30 years (until March this year) dealing with drunken idiots who can't handle their ale. However that doesn't stop me having a few jars before a game, or spending the best part of 2 days drinking (and freezing) at Murrayfield. I found in my Police service that those who drink and want to fight would want to fight whether they had a drink or not. I worked numerous Middlesbrough v Leeds football matches where it was obvious that there were groups of supporters who just wanted to fight and that's what they were there for. The only way to get round this is good old fashioned hard policing and to get the perpetrators locked up and banned from RL.

Listen,there is a lad fighting for his life in hospital and you seem very willing and able to try and defend the actions of these so called featherstone fans. I have witnessed the behaviour of your fans at post office road in 2009 during our challenge cup game,when I personally had lit cigarette butts thrown at me by a neanderthal man in rovers shirt,and in 2010(challenge cup again)where every pub around the ground had an ugly atmosphere inside it due to the behaviour of featherstone fans. Your town,club and fans may well be stuck somewhere in the mid 70's where violence was seen as the norm and therefore acceptable at RL stadiums. The rest of the country has moved on,this is 2010,people don't go to rugby games looking to fight opposition fans just for the hell of it anymore. Please catch up with the rest of civilisation all you occupants of featherstone.

all the activities place emergency services such as mountain rescue at risk, no activity, well most activities can have an impact on others, should they be banned? i don't think so myself, if idiots misbehave lock em up, don't stop me from doing the things i enjoy, i won't complain when my tax pays for an air ambulance to save some mountain climber, don't moan when i have a beer, i will moan when the police don't arrest people for not being able to control their beer intake or fists!

I agree that all activities involving risk when they go wrong in turn place at risk those who undertake rescue missions - but when someone signs up to mountain rescue/lifeboats etc they are aware of those. I don't mind if my taxes go to pay the air ambulance (although I thought that the air ambulance services were all charities relying on donations rather than income from taxes?) & if life is saved then financial cost should not be considered (in an ideal world!). However I have never heard of an innocent bystander being injured by a falling mountain climber landing on them; nor have I heard of a hang-glider crashing into someone's back garden crushing them in a combination of giant kite & deckchair... I have heard about & seen innocent bystanders attacked by drunk people, I have heard about & known innocent bystanders killed by drunk people & I have known innocent people killed by drunk drivers. That is where I argue that drinking is an almost unique passtime in that its abuse routinely affects more than just those undertaking the passtime.

Your right he does - I'm not sure if I misunderstood his comments about lack of police presence outside, whether he thought there should have been and wasn't or he thought there wasn't any need for any & there wasn't; either way he is wrong, as there was a police presence there!
