At the end of the day it was a pre season friendly. Wigan deserved the win but in all i thought it was very reserved. A lot of one out rugby and when we did throw the ball around and went out wide we scored.

I think TS probably got exactly what he wanted from that, A good run out for the team against a quality opponant, No Major injury concerns (as far as we know?) and a few things to work on in the 10 days before our season starts.

I dont think either team gave 100%, i would place a bet that we were told to hold back to avoid injuries etc in a meaningless friendly.

The one real concern i've got from tonight; and Leigh also exploited it was our marker play. When Wigan got their timing right they managed to hit us in the gap behind the markers. Their first try highlighted this as we failed to close the gap where the markers had been, and a coupld of times in the second half they exploited it too. I'm pretty sure Smith will have noticed and look to rectify this.

As for our attacking performance it looks just to be a case of timing more than anything. It was always going to be hightlighted more tonight with a team that would get off the line quicker than Leigh did. They've got a week to work on that though. Our most dangerous runner was Bridge, i think he could be in for a big season.

We were bobbins. Pies were slightly better and deserved the win. There defence was v good. Why didn't any of the officials see Tomkins lose the ball in the run up to there 2nd try??

It was a turgid and pretty boring game. I said after last season's friendlies that I wouldn't go to another friendly, but eh ho!
I thought there had been two rule changes for this season - once one leg is in the air, held should be called, and a player cannot be taken into touch or pushed back across the line if more than one tackler involved. Has anybody told the refs? Obviously not from last nights performance.
I think TS is holding back all our set moves for the league games so that the opposition will be taken by surprise?????????

If anyone seriously thought for one minute that wire would come out all guns blazing for a pre season friendly against wigan then they need locking up. Tony Smith is far too intelligent than to show his hand before the season has even started. Like someone else said, come 20th February I think we will see a completely different game from both teams and hopefully a different result to boot

Now i'm warm again ill give my thoughts....... Thought we were stuck for ideas at times and found ourselves reverting back to one man rugby, apart from his pass to Riley, Bridge had a shocker, Monas looked a bit rusty and Mathers looked terrified of running in against his former club.

On the up note i thought King was solid under the high ball and returning the kicks, Harrison put another few big hits in and he's looking like he'll have a fab year with us, Westwood, Atkins and Solomona were solid but i found the latar getting tired after 10 mins.

All in all it was a decent hit out that will get players up to match fitness and would have made Tony's mind up as to who plays were, hopefully we didnt pick up any lasting injuries but improvment needs to be made for the start of the year.

I didn't like the fact we were constantly going short side when it clearly wasn't working for us. All these things of course mean nothing.

Wonder if hicksy has found his dummy yet.

3 new players, a week in the sun and two weeks with Andrew johns AND a full off season with Mr Smith. Just came away from the game thinking, my god we looked exactly like last year, Don't seem to have much problem getting to there line, but void of ideas when we get there.

Myler for me has a lot to prove if he's going to justify the money and time invested in him, last night Sam Tomkins for me was better
in both skill and intensity. Sorry if people have a problem with it but I'm defiantly in the he's had enough time to fit in, he needs to start the season running not the oh he's new give him a few months to fit in rubbish.

Thought Matt King put a lot of work in last night and of course Mr Morley was his usual good self, also thought that Chris Bridge looks dangerous every time he got the ball he's a very dangerous runner for me.

Apart from that left very underwhelmed, but I'm sure come the 7th they will be firing on all cylinders (mmmmm)

The Jon Clarke haters a few rows below us in the South Stand were pretty quiet. That was quite a blessing. Didn't hear them boo once. That will all change when he's back to full fitness though.

Myler needs time to bed I said this last night Briers has been the main leader for us in attack for years and now he has to share that work load and let Myler take control as well, if you listen to the interview with Briers from last week he even says more or less they haven't clicked yet and they need to work on it.

I have a couple of questions, how come when Solomona picked the ball up from the play the ball and went for the line himself, Wigan got a penalty?

Also how come Matt Kings try was disallowed? Didnt he get the ball down? Couldnt see from where i was...

Subsitutetastic mistakeathon, I don't see why people are feeling down about the result. The players must have struggled to know who was inside and outside from each other from one minute to the next (wigan passed to a player wanting to come on presumably thinking he was on his outside).
In Tomkins Wigan have a real gamebreaker.

I understand what your saying and to a certain extent your right, but he got pummelled last night and it will be even worse for him when the season starts, I just think before we know it we will be a couple of months in and he could be In bad shape if he doesn't as I say start the season running, I'm under no illusion the boys got talent, but if he doesn't start showing it from the beginning, we could have the same scenario as Mr Penny, started getting picked on, was under prepared and lost all his confidence in himself.
Myler does seem to talk a good game I just fear it could go either way.

I shall be there cheering him on on the seventh and wishing him and the team all the best. its just a worry.
