Hardly surprising is it given their success over the years.

| As this thread is going down the glory hunter, people's club, blah blah blah route I should just point out that those of us from Warrington who support any club from Liverpool or Manchester may consider them our local clubs, there are A LOT of United fans from Manchester and Liverpool fans from Liverpool who consider us all a bunch of glory hunting out of towners. Trust me - I know!

Correct...
I dont go to Anfield anymore...too Expensive and the sport on the whole is crap , but one of the things I hated about the place most was the scousers....
when The new stadium plans were first shown to the fans I had the privelige of hearing a true scouse conversation in the bogs in the kop...
"an I tell youse when de do de new kop day should only sell tickets to fans wid a liverpool postcode.. no more day trippers or cockney reds"
I guess they dont reallise if they only allowed scousers in they could actually reduce the size of anfield by a fair bit and still have plenty of room to mince about...
and Ive plenty more experience of stuff like that

| Well I'm glad you don't go because I go all the time and one of things I hate most is so-called Liverpool fans who hate Scousers. Don't follow their football club then!

Plus don't they realise that people move around ?

What's Merseyside (whatever that is) got to do with it? If someone comes from Birkenhead, then Tranmere would be the obvious team to support.

| i voted for Giggs, but not because hes a footballer but because he played junior RL for Folly Lane in Swinton. He was a fantastic Stand off, seen him play many times against Andy Farrell who played for Orrell St James. Giggs was a natural at RL he had a great side step and pace to burn, never missed a tackle and kick goals from all over the park. Would easily been a GB international and you'd never have heard of Harris if he'd carried on but football came along and offered him trials- guess if you look at it in financial terms he made the correct decission.
Got my voted as there was no other RL players in the short-list and he was the nearest to it.
BTW seen him in the away stand a couple of times at Your stadium when Salford have been there, keeps himself to himself.

Are you sure, Giggs is a year older than Farrell unless Farrell played some games at a year above.

There was also a survey done a few years ago by one of the universitys in Manchester concentrating on the support of Manchester United and Manchester City in Manchester. It showed that there were more season tickets holders with an M postcode at United than there were season ticket holders with any postcode at City. This has probably changed a lot in the few years since the Glazers have taken over. I have worked for over 10 years in Manchester in a variety of different organisations from factories to schools and all sorts of offices From this experience I would say there was 75-25% split in favour of United. In a lot of schools in the early 00's you would see the majority of kids in school with united tops on and only one or two City.
As for Salford the vast majority of them are United.

This is a lot more true of Liverpool than Manchester. Scousers like to stick together and don't like outsiders. Why to you think they gave all the woolies the bad jobs on the docks. Warrington lads have always been accepted by Mancunion United fans whether they were stood on the Stretford End, United Road or sat in K Stand as have many fans from different towns. It's probably due to the numbers who have travelled everywhere through the 70's and 80's. It doesn't matter where you were from as long as you were United.
I used to wear a Warrington scarf in the Stretford End and at away games with no problem at all.

Yes and if Nathan McAvoy had chosen football then we'd all be saying he would have been the best centre in the world ever if only he'd chosen league, McAvoy at junior level was being talked of as our equivalent to Mal Meninga.

To a degree it probably is a lot more true at Liverpool yes, particularly for Warrington lads and other "locals" from the surrounding area but not the city itself. I think that's because Scousers have a far stronger sense of identity than Mancs (I've lived in Manchester for seven years so I'm not being biased or derogatory when I say that but it is my perception) so the common mindset is Liverpool is Liverpool and everywhere else (including the rest of "Merseyside"icon_wink.gif is not.
It is still prevalent in Manchester though. At an Oasis gig at the cricket ground once my mate was chatting to a few lads who asked him where he was from. He replied 'Warrington' and was immediately shunned because 'you're practically a Scouser' (their words). The irony was they weren't even talking about football and he is actually a United fan.
The lads at work who go the matches are always moaning about Cockneys and other southern United fans too.

There is more and more of this going on at the moment but throughout to 70's, 80's and early 90's there was very little of this. I think nowadays it's more of a reaction to the Johnny Come Latelys from the Home Counties and the view that everyone south of Birmingham is a cockney They get most of the blame for Old Trafford being like a morgue most of the time (along with the Irish).
