No surprise; he always said he wanted to play in the same team as his brother.

Doesn't he play centre for Canberra and wing for Australia? I'll bet he's a crap centre.

| If you look at Australian test sides, their back line tends to always be composed of centres
ie in the world cup 08
Monaghan
Tate
Folau
Inglis
Wingers have to be exceptional, eg Sailor to get a start

| A lot of Aussie backs are versatile and move across the backline, they are less hung up about player x playing this position than we are over here.
In Australia you would never get people stressing about Matt King's not a centre he's a winger etc. Look at Minichello, he's played across the back line, so's Inglis, Hodges, Tahu even lesser known players like Schifcofske, Stuart Kelly, Luke Burt, etc they are all comfortable playing wherever in the outside backs. Darren Albert came over here and played a good part of his Saints career as fullback, with no fuss.
Over here Chris Riley plays a couple of games at fullback (where hes played all his junior career) and fans and the media start getting their underwear twisted because a winger is a winger and can't play anywhere else in England.

| I disagree with that statement to some extent.
To be a top class centre you need certain 'skills' that Chris Riley will never posess. Joel Monaghan doesn't either for mine and Matt King definately doesn't e.g. Footwork and pace.
Most of the players you mention have all the necessary skills to play in all of those positions, Inglis, Hodges et al could play anywhere from 1-6 to a decent standard. Chris Riley couldn't.

| Israel Folau would be ideal at Wire and Clint Greenshields
and any decent half back
i think wire would be sorted then
we could get thorman on the cheap and get rid of Briers
should keep us under the cap

The fact that Chris Riley doesn't possess those certain 'skills' is an indictment on junior and youth development in the UK. We should be producing players with a full set of core skills in every position on the field.

| The skills a world class centre needs aren't taught.
They're inherited.
Same with Wingers.
Aaand all our best athletes are playing soccer for mine.

I didn't even want to dignify these comments with a response but they are so far from the mark it isn't even funny.

| When Wigan were winning everything in sight in the 80's they always managed to find decent overseas guys
maybe aussie/kiwi scouting is something we could be better at
Remember the likes of the iro brothers and botica to name 3 of very many they managed to recruit. in this day why can't we find such quality ?

| Lockyer.
I just can't see him being a flop in SL. Easily get 2 years out of him. It'll be similar to when Catalan had Stacey Jones and it worked for them.
