Does anyone think it would be worth having a proper reserve league for super league clubs? Would the fringe squad players and promising youngsters develop more as a result?

Keighley Cougars operate a reserve side and all the young players have been developed by the club and live within a 10 mile radius of Keighley. Last Thursday they beat Great Britain (BARLA) Amateur team convincingly. Keighley's central funding for the whole of 2015 is less than the salary paid to one Warrington first team player.

What do we want you to do about it?

When you vote in favour of the Marquee player salary cap exemption arrange, in addition, a vote in favour of requiring Super League clubs to run an "A" or under 21 with 5 over age players allowed or whatever reserve team from 2016 onwards and scrap dual registration.

The salary cap is a blight on Rugby League in my opinion. Its an outdated concept that has long served its purpose and the end result being that the top Super League clubs cannot compete with NRL opponents. This years World Club series has shown that. On a more positive note, a big thanks to NWC for giving Wire players a run out. Without a proper reserve league they need game time.

For what it's worth we did vote against abolishing the under 21 comp (or was it under 23) when they got rid of it a few years back, one of only three or four that did.

It was a terrible idea abolishing the U21's and to this day I still can't see the logic in doing it.

I've just given myself 100 lashes but still don't feel my conscience is cleansed.

For my club following the rules. Within a structure it voted against.

It's interesting that Wire have such squad depth that they can loan four very good players out and still field a winning 17 against the second most successful side in the SL era? Either you are fiddling the cap or utilising witchcraft to ensure you don't get injuries. I'm going to set the OP going on an investigation into that, it's far more interesting than the anti-Keighley conspiracy theory he's come up with so far.

DR has been a big deal for lower level clubs for the past few season, This may not seem a big deal to clubs in Super League, but the breaking of DR rules last season cost Keighley their place in the Championship, Keighley made the decision to keep there reserve team to bring on younger players, to give young local talent a path into the semi professional ranks. Last season we repeatedly faced teams packed with super league players, we choose to go it alone and paid the price. We hoped it would be different this season with new guide lines in place, but I guess not. I know all this must seem very strange to you guys enjoying life in the Super League, so I must apologies on behalf of my fellow Keighley fans if we have bored you with this trivial matter, I shall have a stern word with my comrades and make sure we don't disturb you in your Ivory Tower again, by the way I will still shout for Wire when there on TV, got a soft spot for them, and for the record Penny was a real threat every time he got the ball yesterday.

No offence Shaun but I'm not going to feel guilty for not paying attention to the lower leagues.. If that puts me in an 'ivory tower' then so be it, but your anger should be directed towards the decision makers, not the fans of a club that voted against the abolition of the U21's as mentioned earlier.

Look at a consequential issue - Salford asking Hull to postpone their match as Salford have a lot of injuries (& suspensions) AND "it's too big a jump to bring in players from the under 19s to Super League." JUST RUN A RESERVE SIDE.

PS. Guess you've all seen (Hunslet coach) Barry Eaton in his Leeds Rhinos jacket sitting next to McDermott at all Leeds games. Who do you think decides which and whether Leeds players on DR are in the Hunslet team?

As we've said before about half a dozen times, Warrington voted against the system and was vocal about why. So I don't think the club needs us to have a post-game sit-in in order to change its stance - it agrees.

Still we were out-voted, so we have to find another way to bring our young players through or keep the older ones fit.

Browny is exactly right. The RFL were dead against the vote to reduce SL clubs youth teams - understandably because it undercut youth training. But club chairmen voted by a big majority to go ahead with it, only Warrington (and I think St Helens) voting against. But if you want the person who pushed the idea through it was Gary Hetherington, and SL chairmen that were moaning about losing money e.g. Hull KR, were more than happy to go ahead with the suggestion and save themselves £200K per year.

The one bright spot on the horizon for Championship sides is 2016, when SL clubs will get a big increase in Sky money. I suspect we will see the whole youth set up change again with the introduction of a U20 or U23 side. That should mop up the surplus number of SL players that need to find game time, and perhaps we can return to something like 1-2 DR per Champ. club, with a proviso that the individual is under 23 yr old.

In the meantime, direct your fire towards the ex double glazing salesman at Headingly.

From memory the results of teams playing DR players never seems that impressive. Probably more disruptive than having a positive effect.
