I have just been looking at National Rail Enquiries website for Saturday 5th October & there seem to be services every 10 to 15 minutes from Warrington to Manchester via Earlestown with options of changing at Oxford Rd for Deansgate.

They are not every 10 to 15 mins, there is only 1 per hour to Manchester from Bank Quay. Why go that way when you can go direct from Central? There's 2 an hour direct to Deansgate, 25mins at 34 past the hour, 31mins at 59 past the hour. And there are 4 an hour direct to Oxford Road.

That said, I think I'll drive this year. Did the train last year and whilst the trains were OK, coping with thousands of people in confined spaces, many of whom don't know how to behave, is not pleasant.

No, it won't. I suggest you look again and check the details. Some of the journeys suggest walking from bank quay to central.

It is possible - I did it last year. It wasn't the trains that let me down, as I said above it was peoples behaviour. Firstly we queued at Old Trafford for a train into Manchester and a punchup broke out right behind us. We got off at Oxford Road to wait for a train back to Warrington and there were hundreds of people singing, shouting, arguing, generally causing a nuisance. Got on a train OK but it was packed and took ages as it was a stopper and people took ages getting on and off.

So it is possible, just not very pleasant.

You can catch an Altrincham tram from Victoria. £3 return.

If you get off at the cricket ground & then it's a mile walk to Trafford Park.

If you're getting the Met (tram) from town close to K/O, get it from Market Street or Piccadilly Gardens, it's earlier on the route so will be quieter - if you go to St Peters square you might struggle to get on - especially as there will lots of Wiganers pointing at electric lights and going "ugg".

Similarly, if you're getting the Met back into Sale/Atlrincham - best bet is to walk to Trafford bar rather than getting on at OT - same issues, busy, only this time the Wiganers will be trying to eat the bushes near the train tracks.

So if I get the tram form Victoria on the Altringham line, where do I get off and how far is that from O//T

There is a tram stop at Old Trafford cricket ground (called Old Trafford so you can't miss it). When you come out Old Trafford is right in front you, about a mile away. You can get that back into town if you like - they'll be a bit of queue but it moves quite quickly most times - it didn't last year, which is why I suggested moving to another stop. If you've never done the tram before, just go to Old Trafford and back, it'll be fine.

Trying to get on at Trafford Bar is daft because the tram will already be full after Old Trafford. Get the tram in the other direction to Stretford then get off, cross over, and back on so you're on before it gets to Old Trafford.

If you go the other way (from the Quays) then get on at Salford Quays rather than Exchange Quay because Exchange Quay will be a lot busier.

The train from right outside the ground is the easiest way though.
