'Best finisher in the league' as many are saying is very subjective. Whilst Hicks is very good from 10m out, and he has great awareness of his touchline, anything further than 30m out and his finishing ability is actually very limited. His awareness of the touchline actually becomes a hindrence at this point for me, as he often plays the safety first option and steps inside and takes the tackle.

You rarely see him score anything other than diving in from 10m, and for me that means he is hard to judge as the best finisher.

People talk about Richards and Hicks, yet they are playing out wide in two very attacking teams, and actually Riley has scored every try that Hicks could (and more IMHO) this year.

He is a good player, however he isn't as safe as houses as people make out, his error count is worse than Riley's, in less games.

All that said, his tries at Murrayfield for example were brilliant.

How will we fit Hicks onto the quota with Hodgson signed for next year ?

heard everything now hicks isn't as safe as everyone makes out how many mistakes has he made this season 2/3 (could be more, just say if im wrong) probably one of our most consistent players and scores nearly every game

The quota is reduced by one next year so to keep Hicks aswell as sign Hodgson two overseas players would have to leave.

Hicks was seen drinking a pint of Bombardier in town which qualified him for England, the RFL challenged it but then they brought out the Pat Richards Guiness Statute.

To add some context, Mathers has made 13 errors in 16, and Riley has made 16 in 20.

How are the error counts formulated Dave ?

Say for instance a pass from a centre slightly behind a winger (a pass a winger at pace wouldn't be able to take in)
was touched ever so slightly by the winger into touch.
The error is technically the centres' bad pass but would the error be attributed to the Winger ?

Not sure mate, I would expect a certain amount of subjectivity by the company doing the stats (OPTA).

His error count isn't that massive tbh, King's is over 30 and he has been excellent, I just get frustrated when people make out that Mathers and Riley are error prone, yet Hicks is safe as houses and has only made 2 or 3 errors this year.

Mathers makes very few but the trouble with being the last line of defence is a mistake usually leads to an opposition try.

I can only comment on the last 15 years since I got my first season ticket as a teen, and can say that he is definately the most complete winger we've ha in the last 15 years at least.

Henare and Fozzie better, don't think so! Just coz fozzie played for us for absolutely ages and henare scored a memorable try does not make them great. I actually remember fozzie having a couple of stinking seasons, although overall he did a good job for us and I have some very fond memories.

fair play then but he is very consistent and you should show that stat on every thread having a go at mathers or riley.

TBH you will find that I will when you get people making unreasonable claims. Despite my comments on here suggesting I am not a massive fan of Hicks, he is actually a good player in my eyes and I like his attitude and would be very happy if he stayed.

jesus tonight.....all these people saying Hicks is not that good. We would be out of the challenge cup if it was not for Hicks, that try he scored right in the corner. 90% of current SL wingers would not have scored that try. This guy scores tries out of nothing. He is an immense finisher. I can understand Pie eaters not rating him but those who watch him every week must see how good he is surely

Totally agree. Whilst saying he is the best winger since Bevan maybe open to challenge, he is certainly a superb winger and will be a loss when he eventually leaves. I can count a number of tries he scored for us at critical times which would not have been scored but for his unique talent.
