Very quiet on the rumours front, which is unusual, for a player that needs to continue his career somewhere.

He had his faults and didn’t really have a position he was a specialist at but I’ve not really seen a better runner of the ball off our own line... ever!

Yes he was excellent at the things he did well. When we were in form under Smith he was fantastic at breaking the line from dummy half. We forget that far too easily.

He wasn't an all-round winger though, which is what is required in our new era. I don't want him to leave thinking we didn't appreciate what he did for us during Smith's better times, so I wish him well wherever he ends up.

If that's true the sad reality is you could have 2 better young players with a lot of potential instead of him for the same money. No wonder there have been no takers. I don't think he is good value for that wage, I hope he does get a contract and career out of Rugby league somewhere but he has some areas that he really needs to work on to improve his all round game. He hasnt shown enough improvement in his time with us IMO in fact he has possibly gone backwards since he got his teeth knocked out.

Thanks. Not just rumour then. I’ve got nothing against Russell and he’s very good at some things, but I’m not sure whose decision it was to tie us down on a big wage like that.

Is he definitely not even training with us? I would have thought at that price he’d at least be on dual reg and available should we have an injury crisis.

If that figure is correct then IF I understand the Salary Cap rules correctly we have that amount less any subsidy to his new club to play with. (When/if he moves).

Sort of, any salary in 2018 will be available. But it seems that Charnley’s wage isn’t 100% on the cap for 2018, so room will need to be made for Charnleys 2019 salary cap wage.

I also think if we choose to pay another club £50k to take Russell off our hands, it wouldn’t count on the cap.

Fairly sure Charnley's full salary is on the cap this year. He would have not to have played RL for the last 5 years I think to get dispensation.
