| Murray does my head in because he's a miserable dour c---
The England bashing or being Scottish doesn't come in to it if Nadal was Scottish he'd still be my favourite tennis player.
In the past i've liked McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Lendal, people with something extra that makes them compelling to watch.
Sod patriotism, i want entertainment

| I'd rather listen to Wakefield v Wigan on the radio that watch the tennis final. Much as I hate Wigan, I'll be supporting Wakefield all the way.

| Tennis is an individual sport anyway, its not a team sport, other than the Davis Cup. People pick their favourite individual players for different reasons. When I was a kid it was Mats Wilander, with a sneaking liking for Lendl, then it moved on to Ivanisevic. I don't think I've had a proper favourite since Ivanisevic retired.

Its Frank Bruno-syndrome......The gormless British public fall for a bumbling, talentless idiot who, because he can throw in some 'amusing' one liners, gains the love of people (who, ironically, usually know fook all about the sport), while they choose to ignore or dislike a person who is actually good at the sport.

| I love watching Tennis, I cant play it for Shit though, I was watching Serena Williams smash shots around that I wouldnt have been able to see never mind get a racket on. I understand people dont like it but i cant understand why people say its a sport or the top pros arent particularly skilful.
And As for Murray he isnt particularly enigmatic but neither is Nadal from What ive seen of him. I like Federer though he seems to play witha smile on his face which isnt difficult when you win as much as he does...
But I hope Murray wins, because we have a legion of media people and fans that thrive on any sort of British failure I hope he wins and screams you effing beauty just like Mark wright did when Lifting the Fa cup in front of lady DI....

| I'm not a fan of tennis, but like most sports I can appreciate the game.
To me it's just ''unnatural''.
I hope Murray wins, but Federer is favourite.
Today I watched the Tour De France, and in the breaks the British GP, then I switched off - although the other have had the main tv on with the tennis
Tennis comes low down on my list of things to watch.

The thing is that unlike the England football team, Murray will win one of the top prizes before he retires. He was outclassed today, but very gracious in defeat I thought.
I'm not usually a big tennis fan, but have been to Wimbledon and it's definitely one of the highlights of the sporting calendar. Alright there may be a few too many 'toffs' there, but at least they have managed to maintain the balance between tradition and modernity. Which means there are no shi'ite nicknames for the competitors, no awful music after every point, no twitter names on the back of shirts, and most of all no annoying drums being played.

| Murray fell apart, I'm afraid.
It is of course admirable that he is the 4th best in the world at what he does, but he clearly hasn't (yet) got it in terms of big match mentality when it comes to the crunch.
I'm no fan of his, though I almost felt sorry for him during his post-match speech.
Then I remembered what he earns. And clocked his missus. So any sympathy I had quickly evaporated.

IMO it doesn't really come down to big match mentality. It's not like Murray is going to finals and then losing his bottle against players he really should be beating. He is pretty good under pressure and I thought he played ok today, his game didn't disappear into a load of unforced errors or double faults. He isn't as good as Federer, Nadal or Djokovic that's the bottom line, Federer today when he hit his stride served superbly and just hit winners, he won the game rather than Murray losing it.
In any other era Murray would have won a few Grand Slam tournaments because he is better than a lot of players that have won the odd Slam here and there, but with three of the all time greats of the game playing in the same era they just hoover up the Slams and don't give anyone else a shot.
There was a great stat about since Federer winning his first Wimbledon in 2003, all the Grand Slams have gone to Federer, Nadal or Djokovic apart from Roddick, Gaudio, Safin and Del Potro winning one each.

That's something of a contradiction, there, no? Unless you think those four one-off winners are better than Murray? Today was Murray's best effort in a major final, but even if he had won the second set, which Federer frankly burgled off him, I still think he would have lost in the end.
I'm assuming you're not trolling for a change, obviously.

Pretty much blob on....Many tennis experts have acknowledged that in any other era, Murray would have won a few Grand Slams already.
His Slam record is actually very impressive - he rarely gets 'giant-killed', mainly losing to one of the big 3, or at least a similarly ranked player, and the fact he has been almost resident in World top 4 for the last 3 years indicates he has the consistancy needed to be rated as above-average.
I think he will eventually sneak a Slam, though I think it will be a US or Aussie Open when he does, and it will probably be in a tournament when at least 2 of the big 3 get upset along the way.

I should have qualified that, Roddick, Gaudio and Safin won theirs in the early part where Nadal and Djokovic were very young and weren't dominating apart from Nadal at the French. So really since Murray has been around, its only been Del Porto winning one. I do think Murray is better than any of those four. But when people say he's going to win one one day, I'm not sure, it will take a lot of luck. His chances of winning a Grand Slam tournament are about the same as Catalans winning a major trophy in the next 5 years.
I think had Murray come round a few years earlier, in the gap between the end of Sampras/Agassi's careers and Federer emerging, he would have won some slams, at the time it was guys like Alberto Costa, Thomas Johansson, Lleyton Hewitt, Gustavo Kuerten winning them.
