Have to agree. We had 6 or 7 players from our first choice 17 and those that played were on a short turnaround, plus our bench was reduced to 2 before the end of the first half. For the level of effort and determination we showed I was really impressed. Dean made a shed load of errors, but at least he gave it a go and will be the better for the experience. I am not sure about Burrell, he looks as though he hasn't played much rugby, let alone rl. Will he be a decent signing ?. Thewliss was excellent, despite playing out of position. Smith looks clearly unfit and Bennie is spent sadly, not surprising at his age. Ratchford was in a league of his own.

If you look at the patchwork of a team we put together with Thewliss, Dean, Smith, Burrell and Johnson who have hardly ever played together (5 games between them), two 17 yr olds with virtually no experience at SL and the penalty of only two on the bench, I would say they really produced a gutsy performance.

Can't complain today, i didn't expect to win so instead of crying about the game just sat and enjoyed it. Dean Riley had some nice touches and at 17 for a debut.....well done kid. Matty smith wasn't amazing but wasn't crap and did more than patton does so happy after only 1 training session. Burrell for me is TOO big for centre and he got stepped a fair few times, i don't think he has the agility for centre. I still believe he's better suited in league at 2nd row, but that's just my oppinion and i'm not a coach and never seen him in training etc.
Great to see Benny back putting some big mean hits in.
Lama Tasi finally put some big hits in and some actual effort.
Thewlis great try, loads of energy and great signs for the future.
Livett yet again a Much better attacking threat and all round better option than Currie.
Johnson, apart from the tackle didn't do bad, and i know people will completely blame him for it but where were the other players either side of him......nowhere.
Great to see new players and fresh faces it made the game more enjoyable for me, and some of our first team should have been dropped awhile ago for these players. But price seems stubborn and unwilling to make changes unless forced even with underperforming players which rings alarm bells for me.
But all in all not the worst performance i've seen and with 2 players off injured and we got to blood some new players, happy days

Ok we had 2 junior players. I think we’re over reacting to the ‘youngster’ theme. Gutsy performance or not, the squad has been assembled to compete. Saints did it without Coote, Percival, Fages, Roby, Walmsley. We tried hard without a few players but didn’t get close to winning the game.

10 of the 17 players were signed by the current coach. 2 young squad members promoted by that coach. If the squad isn’t good enough to compete, clear out the dead wood and reinvest. And not on high priced, average bodies.

If true all I can do is apologise. Itll probably be the same small percentage of morons that all clubs have.

Fair play to Hill putting in a big stint there. Did he play about 60 mins or did I miss him going off? Him and Westwood are stalwarts but so penalty prone. BMM's break was great to see, not really seen too much of that since he joined you guys. Hope Dean isn't jaded by that, he didn't have a good day, it was great to see him force the error from Tasi.

Hill and Westwood were burnt out at the end and like clockwork racked up the head tackles. I think young Bentley had the last word via a pat on the head of Benny though.

A big positive for me is that hill just knuckled down tonight, discipline much better, no moaning and leading by example.

Saints scored two tries off the back of Chris Hill penalties.

Picking up another 4 injuries during the game didn’t help and Hill cramping up at then end after a 75 min stint...

All these things considered, it was a very spirited performance against arguably the best team in the league.

Livett and Ratchford really stood out for me.

Saints deserved their lead. I can understand us taking that penalty, with 50 seconds to go. Good choice

Second half
We go 8 points behind, we are awarded a penalty, and we TAKE THE KICK??????. Hoping we score a try again(with a successful kick) and hopefully score again to actually TAKE THE LEAD, and (hopefully) prevent the LLS winners scoring again (they have a nasty habit of doing this)..

Drivel. We were doing OK, ball in hand, until then. Saints KNEW they had the beating of us, at that exact moment. They were on easy Street, ever since.
Price (for me) has lost EVERY bit of good will he had. Pathetic game management. Pathetic team selection (week in week out, bar injuries/suspensions).

Can't (and won't) have a go at the youngsters. They've been put in an invidious situation, and on the whole, they turned up. Well done.

Trouble is, Saints did that to us, tonight, with their stars missing.

Just on Livett, he was immense for me put a really strong shift in defence and seemed like he had a point to prove. I was mightily impressed with his efforts he’s got a such deceptive left foot step, made a break or two look really sharp and strong. Other than a knock-on, he really seemed to eager to ‘take them on’ more of the same please! .. I would keep him in the side for next couple weeks especially with doubts over the fitness of Hughes & now BBM.

You’re as close to the bottom as you are to the top. There’s no arguably about it, Saints are the best team in the league by a mile. The biggest gap there’s been, in the Super League era anyway, between 1st and 2nd.
