Well I haven't read Radlinski's book but I've read Scullys. Scully said it was an ongoing theme that Millward would tear strips out of younger players and try to humiliate them in front of the senior players. Every year they asked the players to write down what the coach could do differently next year and every year Scully picked up the way he treated younger players, but nothing was ever done. Scully was quite fair to Millward in his book, he did suggest Millward was chummy with the top players so I guess he was always mates with the likes of Scully and Cunningham - but he did also say that by the time Millward left the dressing room was split 50/50 between players that wanted him out and players that were happy for him to stay.
A few years earlier, before I'd read Scully's book, I remember talking to a Wigan player that played under him who reported similar things, pretty much exactly the issues Scully brought up. The other complaint he said was that the players thought he was two faced and he wasn't respected in the dressing room. I haven't read Radlinskis book but wouldn't be surprised if the same thing came out there as well.

| People can change can't they? Especially when they have had to face personal tragedy and I'm not talikng about wigan's worst defeats.
He's not head coach and are we even sure who's pick he is TS or Moran as admittedly that might make a difference

| After reading what Sally says it would make little sense to put such a character in control of youth development?

| well just picking saddened up on his point, what players at sintellins did he 'bring on' during his time there.
Wellens maybe, Roby hit the big time after he left and was under Anderson,
other than that, i'm struggling.

| Come on chaps
We used to have somebody on our coaching staff upto a few years ago, who was obnoxious, rubbed fans up the wrong way, was difficult with some areas of the media, and now, even worse, he coaches rah-rah
We don't want another (but I wont lose sleep if Basil Fawlty sods off to rah-rah though)

Hanley brought Wellens in to the team, he was already a Grand Final winner and had a full season as a first teamer under his belt before Millward took over.
Millward brought through Bennett, Stewart, Stankevich, Jonkers, West, Edmondson plus he picked up Gardner, Higham and Wilkin from the NFP.
Mike Bennett was a good solid player who held his own in a very good squad but apart from him the young players that really thrived under Millward were the guys he brought from the NFP who were already hardened first teamers that had had success at a lower level.
Has the Millward to Warrington link come from anywhere other than Nosey Parker? Nosey puts made up stories in his column to get interest, so unless this has been corroborated elsewhere its a non starter.

Was he vandalising it with the Hull fans, only for the Hull fans to blame their stadium sharing, football counterparts.

not that I saw. I spoke to a guy who was in his box after their try which I thought was forward at the time, and he mentioned that Millward had said that the RFL were looking at something similar to Hawk eye in tennis to assist the referees with forward passes. Just thinking outside the box on this, why don't they get the touch judges to have a look in future?

| Just catching up on Boots n All, I just can't but help like Paul Cullen more and more. Is it sentiment or does he just talk with passion? I'd give him this position rather than Basil.

| Bring back Cull, give him the youth role, you can see the love and passion he has for thr club, if that wouldn't inspire the kids to play for the first team nothing would.
Say no to Millward, BRING BACK CULL

Whilst i will not ever support or defend any bellend or idiot that was abusing him after the game round the front of the stadium, i'd sit in after the game again tomorrow if I felt it right to do so, as i did that night.
you'd like to think there's been enough water under the bridge though now for some kind of reconciliation, its been nearly 6 years.
Besides, we should all look back on that season and question why we didn't get jimmy lowes ousted as our season slid to an end.
I can't believe those bloody interviews with skents were 5 years ago.

| Very few coaches end their reigns at a club on a high. Some end worse than a low (no pun intended )Several end in an absolute shambles and disrespect flows in all directions. That said I would doubt if we could find a citizen of our wonderful town who loves this club and town more than Paul Cullen. I believe Cull would be good for the youngsters as said previously and i believe he would work well with TS. I am sure Cull has a good if not better relationship with Mr Moran.
Bring him home

| I would have Cullen any day ahead of Millward. It comes down to whether Cullen would be happy to come back in a role that wasn't head coach. It might be hard for him to serve under another coach now.
As Cat says though it's been 5 years, lots of water has gone under the bridge, and I am sure he respects Tony Smith and the trophies he has put in the Wire cabinet.
The danger with bringing Cullen back in a role like youth coach is that the media would naturally go to Cullen for interviews, and he might end up being quoted more than Tony Smith, so it could feel odd for TS.

Cull was on the top table at Bennie's Q&A night some months ago and he was asked a question about him taking a vacant head coaches job again. He said that he didn't think he would go for or want another SL job again and was happy with his Sky commitments. I'd love to see him back at the HJ and I wouldn't thought Cull taking over the academy post would be a problem for TS. It's possible that he has ruled himself out already.

| I wonder how being a youth coach compares with being a Sky pundit for pay, hours required etc.
Not saying Cullen would just think of the money but I bet media work is easier and better value as an hourly rate and it's not as though he's not done enough hard graft in his career. If he wants to stay as a media pundit why not? He's the best summariser / pundit in RL.

Doesn't Barrie McDermott combine those exact roles at Leeds?

I'd not like to see Millward at our club. He's a "nice bloke"
