He clearly isn't registered as a player, by doing that, he doesn't count on our salary cap. Perhaps he needed to remain in 'employment' to qualify for his testimonial events and the tax benefits? Therefore we couldn't confirm we had released him? Or maybe Harrison himself preferred to see out his contract rather than have it paid out in full at the start of the year?

All the rumours about a new coach are just building people's hopes up.

I would love to see Furner or Barrett given a chance but I can't see Smith moving on despite what the tabloids say. If that was the case the club wouldn't be letting him recruit for next season - the probable Danny McGuire scenario being the perfect example.

If anything, I would have thought it was Wigan lining up Furner or Barrett to replace Wane. Wigan are much more ruthless when it comes to demanding results (hence the SL titles) whilst we tend to stretch out a coach's tenure beyond it's reasonable length.

Furner and Barrett also have connections to Wigan as former players.

NRL Journalist Moley, has confirmed on twitter that Warrington are talking to Aussie coaches at present. When I asked about Barrett he said "nil chance".

I wonder if that means that Smith will officially move 'upstairs' to Head of Rugby then (even though that was mooted when Agar joined). I don;t think we'll see him disappear but I'd like to see a reputable Aussie as first team coach. Not sure where that leaves Agar.

One thing Smith has hardly done well in is recruitment.
