It my eyes we've just completed a 27 game league season. We won more points than any other team and finished at top. This says to me we have won the league and will receive
some silverware for doing so.

In 93 Wigan won the league and Saints won the Premiership.
The rfl acknowledged that winning the league was the greater of two and rightly so.

Fast forward to 2011, we win the league and the playoff winners are yet to be known. This time the rfl with the backing of sky deem that the pay offs are more important.

When are fans (football and rugby) going to stop letting sky dictate how they think about the game.

If we win the GF the same sad bitter trolls will be on here saying.."you've never won the world club challenge"...

Not at all. You havent won the league. The 27 weekly rounds are now a jostle for position going into the playoffs. Teams know that and no longer approach games in the same way. For example Smith lets Morley miss the game yesterday so he is back for the play offs. Under the old system of first past the post being Champions he would not have done that.

Had it been first past the post Wire would have won even more points no doubt and would probably have won the league. But its simply not like that anymore, you are not Champions for finishing top. You are crowned Champions by winning at Old Trafford in October in the Grand Final. The weekly rounds just make the route easier.

i dont think we've won the league, cos we haven't we've finished top of the table in the pre amble.

That said, the performances and consistancy we've shown in finishing top is worth being very happy about, especially when you consider where' we've come from.

I agree we're not champions, but we have won the league. The team that wins the league doesn't get crowned champions and failing to convert our league success to Super League title success will be a big disappointment if we don't do it now.

You've won the league leaders shield! I take that as you won the right to be league leaders and the variables it offers going into the playoffs! Which is a massive effort which you did with style. Which is to be respected! Played awesome attacking rugby! Had the best attack points wise and had the best defence without it been particulaly underhand like some of the stuff the pies and hudds offer up.

None of us have ever 'won the league' or anything. A set of elite athletes that we follow have done that, and we are arguing about it as though it's our achievement.

Not denial at all. IMO you SHOULD be the Champions or league winners but under the rules....you aren't just as we weren't in 2000 and nor were Saints in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

By that reckoning we have won at least 21 league titles rather than the 19 times we have been crowned Champions.

You have won the league LEADERS shield, not the league WINNERS shield. The history books will claim that in 2000 for example that St Helens won Super League and not Wigan, and that Leeds won it in 2008 and not St Helens.

Indeed you have. Spanking the crap teams in the league and scoring against the leagues top defences however is a different matter.

The top 5 defences in the league belong to Wire, Us, Saints, Hull and Huddersfield. Points scored against those sides is as follows:

Saints - Wire 60 (av 30) Wigan 94 (av 23.5)
Hudds - Wire 56 (av 18.6) wigan 66 (av 33)
Hull - Wire 10 (av 10) wigan 44 (av 22)
Wigan - Wire 48 (av 24)
Wire - Wigan 50 (av 25)

So, as you can see. You have only managed to score (or average) more points against St Helens. We have outscored you by 10 points against Hudds despite playing 1 game less than you and having a weak team without our top scorers Sam and Richards in one of those.

So, as inside man said, you're attack is much better against Harlequins.
