For me Morley

I don't think the pps are saying it should be a prop/2nd row particularly, but a MOS must surely be someone plays with grit and determination, really gets stuck in, making defensive as well as attacking impact (not necessaily in a statistical/numerical way). For us that is Mozza and Benny. Hodgson at least last year was involved heavily defensively as well as attack - something Richards is not. Remember this is MOS - there are other awards for lots of goals etc.
Don't get me wrong as I said before Richards has had an excellent season and I wouldn't be surprised if he won.

I think he's had more of an impact in those areas than many believe. Im not saying he should be MoS but I think he would be a worthy winner, as would Morley and a few other players. As ive said before he's offered us far more than just points. His meters gained stat is pretty good. I certainly wont argue if Morley did get the MoS, he's been great this season.

Richards ticks all the boxes, he has been consistent, been a goalkicking machine, a prolific try scorer and all round probably the most effective outside back in Super League, in a team which topped the league. Fair enough if he wins MOS.

I have no issue with Richards being the player of the season.... My issue is with the title 'Man Of Steel'... its a title that shouldn't be awarded to a winger or a full back.... Players like westwood that throw themselves into the thick of the action with no regard for personal injury deserve to be called a man of steel... not a goal kicking winger, or like last year, a goal kicking fullback.

Yes I was surprised when that fairy boy Jonathan Davies got Man of Steel for scoring a few tries and kicking some goals, it should have been Denis Betts. Davies didn't risk injury in the thick of the action if someone tried to tackle him he ran away from them.

Morley purely for consistency, 2nd year on the bounce, week in week out puts in the exact same fantastic performance, to think no one else wanted to offer him a long contract ? I bet they are all kicking themselves now

Wasnt so long ago thet the goons wanted Amos roberts to be crowned,and yes he started the season with a bang up until his injury.
I cast my mind back to the year James Roby won this award from the bench,YES from the bench,as a previous poster as said Morley as played 80 minutes week in and week out i have watched him a lot closer than Pat richards who no doubt as had a fantastic season...............So ladies and Gentelmen the 2010 man of steel award goes to ADRIAN MORLEY........

Joel Tomkins and Westwood being the closest runners. Both have had fantastic years as the stats on the link show. Joel seems to be quite abit better going forward but gives away more penalties and makes more errors. Both are even matched up with metres made, carries, and tackles when you take into account westwood has played slightly fewer games.

what i find interesting is how it's now a player's player award.. how much rugby do superleague players actually watch? i would guess not a lot.. it should really be a journalists vote

I think that will be the shortlist, although I would have Richards (who will and should win it), Morley and James Graham.

Trys, goals, points should be an irrelevance.

It is all about performance over the season.

Why are trys, goals or points irrelevant? Surely that's what the game is about. A prolific finisher or a relentless goalkicker is useful to his own team just like somebody who does the hard yards and makes a load of tackles.

At the end of the day Wigan topped the league, and Richards was a difference in what separated them from teams like us who were just behind. Look at their pack with Fielden, Coley, Riddell, Bailey, J Tomkins and so on, is that any better at getting the hard yards than Morley, Carvell, Monaghan, Westwood, Wood, Harrison etc? What about their centres, Carmont, Gleeson, are they better than Atkins, King and Bridge? Is Goulding better than Riley? Even at halfback where Sam Tomkins is one of their best players, I don't think he's better than Briers at this point in time. Wigan had something that made them special otherwise why did we not finish above them?

If the crux of the situation is about points, that immedialtely discounts non-kickers, forwards and the majority of half backs and threequarters.

The quality of Richard's performance yields points, that should be the focus of his play. I would have no issue with Tom Briscoe receiving the award as his performances merit it, regardless of his try scoring record.

I'm not saying it should be a competition of who is the top points scorer, however being a good goalkicker is something which would contribute to evaluating a players overall performance. We would have had a couple more wins, with a better goalkicker. If Chris Hicks had been our goalkicker and had a percentage similar to Richards then we might have finished on top of the league, and Hicks would have been well placed for MoS with that on top of his great finishing. Richards is a finisher in the same class as Hicks and has goalkicking, plus superb penalty kicking to touch, as part of his game as well.

I still think Morley should win it.
