I know it sounds bonkers.
2 full rows were removed from the G/H section between the North & East stand during the closed season, the black cushioned seats where I often sat.
Yet the stadium attendance went up 400!..?

Wigan don’t travel well, and they haven’t since the 80s.
The statement was 1000 home tickets.
I would assume Wigan will get until Thursday afternoon to sell their allocation, then they will become open sale at the HJ.
I would estimate the West stand holds 3000, I reckon Wigan will sell 2000 max.
So I guesstimate up to 2500 tickets may still be unsold. The post from Wire being one to hype propaganda!

Wigan board reporting that less than 1000 tickets left in the West stand and they expect them to go.
I can imagine Wigan keeping selling them until Thursday night. Going to be busy (hopefully) at the DW ticket office in the next 48 hours.

East Stand 36 seats left
North Stand 81 seats left

Wigan has sold all their allocation in the North stand.

Only ~130 seating tickets, and max 750 standing tickets, so overall well under 1000 left.

Yes, still counts on the attendence as it is a payed for seat/allocation.

52 seating tickets left - mainly singles.

I must be a sad b***** counting these - but it satisfies my number fixation!

About 40 seats have become available block P in North Stand.

Around 40 have become available for Block D and around 30 for Block B in East Stand.

34 seats have come up for Block Q, which is usually for Away allocation.

15 seats in Block I as well.

Slightly off-topic, the busiest and most packed in I can ever remember at the HJ, was that first game v Wakefield.

I don’t know what the official attendance was, but I was crammed in like a sardine that day. It has never felt so packed out, or even look as packed out since. Imo.
There were 4 empty corners back then.

I suspect that these blocks of seats that are suddenly becoming available are unsold tickets from eg our community clubs allocation, plus obviously the tickets we sent to Wigan. I think most of the returns will be finished now.

Yup, I remember being one of those sardines. 14,206 was the attendance.

Pretty sure they had to lower the capacity after that due to safety concerns. We didn't get a higher attendance than that until the corners will filled in.

I was in the west that night. The concourse at the front of the west stand was about 4 deep. No way that stadium was suitable for that crowd.

I well remember that match because I managed to cut short a business trip and flew in to Manchester from Tokyo and went straight to the match!
I'd booked for 14 tickets in the east stand. The top corners of the south weren't packed but the aisles were rammed. Really the crowding there was mainly due to the fact that it was the first time the stadium had been used in anger, and the trial run the week before only had a few thousand in the south stand.

i didn't think they did a trial run, they had an open evening in december which had a couple of hundred ppl milling about from stand to stand.

the problem they had at the time, was (and this was done to death on here) most previous stadium/grounds that had old crumbling standing areas, had standing areas, but also had routes for walking through the stand to get to where you want to go, if you stood halfway up the fletch you'll remember the slightly wider bit of floor that no one ever stood on, the HJ doesn't have them, and most ppl probably got up the stairs, realised most ppl had stood at the end of sections, assumed it was full cos they couldn't get through and just stood on the stairs.

i got there with 40 minutes before kick off on this occasion to find the gates closed, i got let in 20 minutes into the game and ended up standing half way up a set of stairs.
