Re. Burgess/Long

At the very least with Burgess, the players will have the support and experience from one of the finest international players of his generation and a true winner. I don't think any of our players would dare to not give 100% and give up. Motivationally, I can't think of many who'd raise the spirits of the team more than Burgess.

He'd need some support with an able assistant, but he'd get my full backing considering the options, or should I say lack of options.

If this has been tied up already then fair play to middleton. He's gone over there with a job to do and got it done quickly. Much better than Karl's jollies where he wines and dines a load of uninterested parties and returns to us with a fistful of "magic" beans.

He is not my choice but rather him than Rowley.

In three days we've apparently gone from 'let's get a tried and tested coach, and make sure it's the right appointment before rushing into it' to 'let's get the first guy we can think of in'.

Burgess has 12 months as assistant to the team who are currently 8th in the NRL and finished 7th last year.

Spot on - it might be better if there was a DoR to build the overall rugby playing structure. Is that the Cullen rumour? Where has that one come from?

Apologies for a thread derail, but that has reminded me of Goodies and the Beanstalk, where a golden egg drops from the sky and is caught by Eddie Waring, who runs up the field and scores under the posts. A week ago, having Sam Burgess as head coach and Sean Long as his No.2 seemed as far fetched as that happening when I was a kid.

I mean, if your tried and tested ‘first choice’ turns you down, you’ve got to have a back up plan. The club often gets criticised for not having a plan in place. For all we know Burgess may of been on the radar all along…

He left over transfer disagreements. I know this as fact.

Souths have won an impressive 21 titles, 20 of which were won before Burgess was even born. Unless you're suggesting some sort of magic has rubbed off on him I'm not sure of the relevance.

If people on this board got banned for arguing there would be nobody on it.

I assume the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme organisers will be curtain twitching like mad, the moment he turns up in the leafy avenues of WA4, with his dangerous dogs t1ng in gardens , untaxed gas guzzling cars and a tumble drier at the garden gate.

Just got back from Menorca and thought this was a wind up.

I'll back Burgess, but I hope it's a short contract based on huge win bonuses. That way we can focus on who is likely to be available this time next year, in the [ilikely[/i event that Burgess and Long can't fix this mess. A rather odd couple.

I mentioned on another thread that we seem to fail when considering the character of players, looks like I should have added “and coaches”.

Oh, and after our first loss all the giggling on that other site about “Agent Long”.
I am truly worried about our club.
