Too many times in the past, we'd've reached 40odd, and just ambled through the rest of the game. Good to see us being ruthless. Long may it continue.
Watched the second half with commentary. Hemmings DEFINITELY had a bad case of mentionitis re. Wembley. He brought it up, every set of 6. Poor Eddie'"
Very true..I did say he'd mention it double figures and in the 1st 30 seconds of his commentary... As for game well done wire..was expecting a dour struggle not free flowing rugby..next week will be tougher but if wakey can get stuck into hudds tonight it may make next week a touch easier... Keep it up wire

| Fully agree with Lefty about not putting the cue on the rack at half time. Very pleasing and one of the few times I've seen no let up.
Hull put up a bit of resistance at the start of the 2nd half but even then we outscordd them 3 tries to 1 before the flood gates opened again.
Great kicks from both Clark and Lineham resulting in tries.
Hughes was awesome in the 1st half and just plain good in the 2nd !! My mom.

| Good display all round, but we need to carry this level of performance through to the end of the season. Although good to see some crisp handling, supporting the ball carrier, better distribution from dummy half and the yardage made by the pack, it's still annoying that the wembley performance was well below par.
Worrying that Hill, BMM and Thompson all have knocks - hope they're ok for the more important game against Huddersfield.

That’s then thing - atttiude.
Widnes have had injuries all season to a very poor squad and have never been in the receiving end of a 70+ and 80 hammering like Hull have this season.
I wouldn’t be too worried if I were Hull though. We put 80 past Cas two years ago and the year after they had their best season ever.

| It is hard to judge how much of last nights performance was down to
A) Kick up the arris and raising our gane
B) things sticking that didnt stick on Saturday
C) Hull just feeling sorry for themselves and wanting the season to be over.
The one thing that i thought worked brilliantly was Jack Hughes at 13 playing as an extra prop.
Maybe in attack he just has not got some of the touches that you might need a second row. Last night he ran straight and hard. He didnt have to judge if he was a block runner or he was going to get the ball.
I thought he had his best game for us last night. Hopefully that is his position from now on.

That would explain the lack of attack, it doesn’t explain 80 points against.

| A good game and exactly what was required after last week. You can put the first half down to Wire's determination, after the break down to fatigue and the last quarter was capitulation by Hull.
Hughes did look good and he probably put out more passes last night than he has done across the rest of the season combined.
We need to take this determination, not just into next week's game, but throughout the business end of the season.

| What a great response, a response we had hoped for after the disappointment of Wembley. Some nice tries and wasn't it great to see some support play. On a few tries we had 3 or 4 players in support. Fair enough Hull were awful and I felt sorry for Rads he is a good honest guy. If we can take that effort and level of performance into next week it could be a cracker with hopefully a home win.

| A lot of ifs buts and maybes but a win against Huddersfield next week, barring a whole series of REALLY strange scorelines we will have at least 4th place sorted. (guaranteed if Wakefield beat Huddersfield tonight and we at least draw next week). Not bad for a team which many were considering that avoiding the bottom 4 again was their best aim.
Huddersfield are unlikely to play like Hull did, but if we perform the same, we should be there.

I think that’s what happened to Graham Appo in the 2003 off-season. He came back and was just a wobbly splodge... I feel guilty about having a go at him now...

| Appo? I don't recall any injury.
He came back after the off-season looking like a squirrel who'd hit the euromillions jackpot, bought every tree in Delamere Forest, filled them wih KP's finest and settled down for a busy winter stuffing his face.

Didn't he pull a hamstring kicking off at the Boulevard, after which he was never quite the same player as some of his pace was lost due to this injury?

| I suspect making the dream team - rightly imo - Appo thought he'd cracked it and went home, went off the rails and came back in the words of Mark Hilton like a fat hamster. I think he thought he'd be1st choice 6 ahead of Briers and was miffed at being on the wing. It then all went downhill and his season was poor leading to him being cut for Andrew John's. A real shame.

Ha ha! We said that last night. We think it's written in players' contracts and due to a misunderstanding they all took their time off in rotation last week!

| Appo isn't really comparable to Shelford. Shelford was a ball player with limited athletic prowess. In the modern game he'd have had no chance. A few years later players like Dean Lawford and Owen Craigie came around who were Shelford-esque but didn't make much impact in SL.
Appo was never a great ball player he was just a dynamic runner who could do damage from stand-off, and could kick OK. His main card was his explosive athletic qualities and so when he was not in shape he was ineffective hence only having a very brief spell of success for us.
Imagine if you could create a Wire team with the Appo of 2003 at 6, Sandow of 2016 at 7, and Henare of 1996 on one wing with Kevin Penny of 2007 on the other. I expect the attendances would improve...

Please don't speak the two names in the same sentence.
Shelford was absolute quality, Appo, was good for 6 months (and a good 6 months it was). The rest of it.... not interested.
I remember speaking to someone at the time, who was mad keen on NRL, who told me about Appo's reputation. Busts a gut for a few months, gets a great reputation, sits with his feet up, until he negotiates another new contract at another club.
Rinse and repeat, until the end of his career.
Shelford, despite his penchant for hanging round Waterfield's, was top notch in P&B
