Leigh is his probable destination they have the money and ambition to succeed, they are waiting for a call from the RFL to reinstate them to SL once Salford's money issues catch up with them.

I would guess that some, if not all his salary has been allocated to Josh. I don't think Matty Russell would have been on the big bucks.

If Russell was to head to Hudds after all, it could be a potential reunion with Tony Smith. I know Smith says he’s not interested in the game anymore but he likes a challenge. The Hudds squad isn’t that bad and Russell on the other wing to Jerry McG would suit Smith’s style i think?

Nah, as SL clubs operate a ‘live cap’, Russell would have needed to be registered with another club with the contracts submitted to the RFL, before they would accept the Charnley signing.

I guess we kept a chunk of cap space free for Charnley, given we had been chasing him in October.

Russell had a new contract in 2015 or so didn’t he? At the time his stock would have been pretty high with Tony Smith, so a half decent contract...?

How about this. Charnley comes to us on 60K for the first year with a promise to increase that if more cap space becomes available. Warrington tell Matty Russell that he has no future at the club and to go find himself another club. Matty has 2 options, find another club or wait out his contract with Warrington which has 18 months to go. If reports be correct Matty is now going to Salford hence more cap space available when he comes off contract.

I guesss the marquee rule must be hard for some players to stomach as you’ll have a huge disparity in salary between most of the squad and then one or two players. Roberts must be on a fair whack as I believe Gold Coast we’re still able to offer him a huge deal, albeit not as first-choice half-back. Ill have to look back through the Aussie media articles at the time but I think I remember seeing stories about the titans offering him $1m AUD over a 3 year contract. If true (and if I’m not imagining it all) that means we are paying him a little bit more than that, a huge difference to most of the squad who will be well below 100k. Hopefully he’ll start to prove why he’s worth so much fairly soon, it’s clear the talent is there waiting to spark into life.

That should encourage them to become marquee players themselves by developing their core attributes, skills and value to a team. If they cannot reach the standard they can have no complaints.

Correct. On duckies point though - the "bigger" clubs will be able to provide more than just a salary. Accommodation, cars, nutrition (free meals) etc.

So you could earn less at Warrington due to it being a big pond, but still be substantially better off for it.

I assume that "benefits in kind" would count on the salary cap otherwise it would be too easy to circumvent.
