| Mickey Higham is deceptive.
In all the drills pre-match, he wins most. Rather than 'natural speed', I think he puts his all in.
I reckon he'd make the top three.

| I think King is definitely one of the quickest, as he proved in the CC quarter final last year when he out-paced Peter Fox...

| If King was so quick he wouldn't have been caught by an ageing hooker in Malcolm Alker over 60/70 metres

| It was 10.8 if i remember and it were about 6 years ago when he was at his peak, which he isn't now. Decent player but he got completely skinned by Peter Fox over 90 t'other year

| after yesterday i would have to agree its atkins.
Great (almost) full length of the pitch try. Thats twice in 2 weeks he has done that and no one could catch him.
In contrast to that King also went clear yesterday and was caught quite easily.

Yes I thought that too. I was wondering if he was carrying an injury.

| No, he's just not that quick, he's been caught numerous times when been away.
Atkins can shift, I've said many a time if he's going to play for England, let's stick him on the wing. We'd have an outside back as quick/strong as the aussies but he's not an international centre in this lifetime or next.

| hmm he's been knocking around a few years now though to make a judgement.
I hope under Smith he flourishes but from what I've seen over the last 3 or 4 years, I don't think he's got it to be a top class centre.

Quick enough to skin Peter Fox though.

| Which one are you making reference to? If it's the one i'm thinking of Fox had to turn and go whereas King was already on the go.
The other day proved perfectly that King, well, isn't that quick. Either that or he's knackered from all the tackling/driving when he's been put away. I'm thinking its the former though

| I think it's the one in the Cc quater finals last year King easily outpaced Fox and gave it to Clarke to touch down.

| That's the one I meant, he was already motoring whereas Fox was flatfooted from the backdoor pass from Bridge, then had to turn and chase.
If King is quicker than Peter Fox I'm the pope's aunt

| Flat out speed I'd say Chris Riley would have it whilst Kevin Penny is playing in the "unders". BUT..... flat out speed doesnt always count in RL. The reason Atkins scored against Salford and "scored" against Wakefield is that he caught the opposition flat footed. A Salford defender was catching Atkins on Friday inspite of running diagonally across the pitch. Another factor is well is that physically the player carrying the ball is at a disadvantage to a chasing player who's actually sprinting.
I remember Des Drummond giving Martion Offiah a 20 yars head start and still catching him when Offiah was considered uncatchable in a straight line.....(he was crap if you stuck defenders in front of him though!)

| That is true, as I mentioned slightly with the King thing too, it all depends on how physically tired you are. Wingers also do a workload and if you're shattered you can't sprint to your full potential.
Riley's been caught a few times by slower opposition but I know he's very, very fast; simply that he wasn't as fit a few years ago. These days I find it unlikely you'd see Riley run down from behind

If Dessie was that fast he would have smashed all of Bevan's records, and Usain Bolts as well. Besides if he had hit anyone front on in a tackle he would have killed them, it would have been like being rammed by a hippo.
