Like to say I think both players have great potential. I think Riley has played really well since he has stepped up to first team. He makes mistakes like any other player, but he works hard and the try he scored against Bradford is one of the best I have seen in a long time. Penny has showed great composure since returning to the reserves and has played well. He encourages everyone on the field and I think he has pace to burn. Good luck to both boys in the future, they have great potential

yeah I can tell you never saw the early season games when Riley was costing us a number of Matches by Losing balls, not getting near any high balls, and being nowhere in the defence where a good full back should be....

I liked his effort in attack he made some nice breaks and scored a very good solo try but truth be told he's not very fast as proved by being caught by a prop forward in the Celtic Game. he'll make an ordinary superleague winger if he keeps that spot. but he put the effort in when no else appeared to be doing so so I guess he's got a bit in the bank......for a while...

Riley is playing better at the moment as Penny isn't playing, Riley is allowed errors and Penny isn't.

Agree with this. Also Penny has far more potential than Chris Riley, and over time will prove to be the better player.

Penny certainly is the future, a near future.
I would personally get him on loan to Widnes for a month or two.
Its no good him just playing in the reserves each week.
He needs heavier contact.
The slightly slower speed levels will give him time to develop his kicked ball retention.

Riley, a guy who's head is firmly upon his shoulders and at home walking down Densham Ave and sharing a chat over a brew at Brunchies.

As for the comaprison between Riley and Penny...?
Riley is an all-round solid performer with who has a quick footballing brain with bags of pace to burn that very very few players can deal with.
Penny however has pace with an extra gear that nobody can deal with!

I totally agree with that statement......Penny hasn't been allowed to develop in the first team environment.....and I do feel he was scapegoat for some issues the team had early on in the season.....

I wish Penny luck now he is on a months loan at Widnes....

It might be down to the fact that certain players are just not getting on with Smiths methods.

I really feel sorry for Penny, Riley does make quite a few errors (dropping the ball) but always seems to get away with it. Penny usually makes a mistake that leads to losing the match. Im starting to feel sorry for him.

I like Riley, but he has made 16 errors already this season (not the highest fullback though, Brett Hodgson has made more), whereas Penny made 17 in twice as many games last year yet gets tagged useless.

Riley does seem to be getting away with stuff that many others would be getting stick for. This isn't a call to get on Riley's back by the way, it is a call to support the others like we have him.
It's pretty interesting when you compare Riley's stats to Paul Wellens.

The reason people favour Riley is quite simple, but the people doing it don't even know why.
