| Whoever we bring in, I’d want an old guard Director of Rugby to overlook getting everything the incumbent coach requires to get a perfect team, while dealing with every other aspect allowing the coach to coach, not manage.
Hence in previous posts, suggesting Alex Ferguson could manage our club. He doesn’t need to know the ins and outs of RL, he knows the ups and downs of management.

He's arguably the best RL forward of his generation. Granted that doesn't guarantee him making a great, or even competent, coach, but it makes for something more exciting than many of the suggestions being made.
It also would possibly attract some Aussie players who want to be here to play for the coach, rather than just for the pay cheque.

Yup, it definitely happened. It sounds unbelievable because we went for coach with no GF wins as opposed to the coach with three.
I can't find out the boards rationale for that. The rumour is Wane wanted too much control. I would be happy to let him have whatever he wants.

| Seems odd (but not surprising) that the board was reluctant to give Wane too much control but then seemingly gave Powell carte blanche to do whatever he wanted…
Would Saints, Wigan, or Leeds appoint Rowley?

| Even if Burgess is getting glowing recommendations of his mates on TV, it's not he hasn't had well publicised off field issues which make you question his judgement and character.
Maybe he has put those days behind him but he's had bad publicity recently after being arrested (and later cleared) for drug driving. He's back in court early next year on a charge of driving while suspended.
The risk of bad PR is too high for me.

I'd always be careful with media recommendations. I mean who actually talks about assistant coaches day to day, seems a bit suss the he's up for a job and then just so happens to get a glowing recommendation from the media.
I always used to puzzle at some of the glowing match commentary by Phil Clarke on some players (who in my opinion where not particularly standout players), then I realised that his brother is a agent for rugby league players, so then it all makes sense.
I'm sure a good agent would be in touch with the show to make sure burgess had someone promoting him as he is being considered.
Equally I'd hope the person in charge of Warringtons recruitment has some rugby knowledge rather than relying on media reports and you tube clips.

I really do sense you won't be happy until you get some big name just so when they finish in all likelihood miserably you can advocate once again for another .. that's half the problem at the club... If you dont acknowledge how Salford play ..that's fine .. you must just fancy five drives and a kick so long as we win

I don’t care how we win so long as we win. Lots on here use to complain about Wane’s teams being boring to watch but same people would have Wane as coach now.

I think I'd be quite happy with that to be honest, both were winners as players and that mindset seems to be missing from a lot of ours. If they can change the mindset, Sam can get the aggression in attack and defence and Sean long can teach our halves how to kick and cause the opposition problems based on what the see rather than kick high to the corner, that should be enough to see a significant improvement.
Both have a lot to prove, it could be sink or swim for both and the same goes for the a lot of our playing squad. Sure a lot could go wrong, but that would be the case no matter who we appoint.
I do still firmly believe in the playing roster we have, we just need someone to get them to believe in themselves and each other again. I see no reason why this group can't compete in every match and win most of them, they need to believe that themselves. We don't have a lot of time to sort ourselves out but I see the rest of this season as a free hit with no real pressure or expectation at having a real go at Winning the grand final. Only Wigan and catalans look like they're really gearing up for the business end at the moment.

Let’s give it 12 months, get behind them and see where it takes us.

That would be a record for us as the quickest use of the homesick card. However, as I posted somewhere else, I m happy he's not coming, as it's better to look elsewhere now rather than going through the process yet again in the very near future.

| Burgess obviously wants an nrl coaching appointment at some point. The only way he'll get one is if he's successful over here. This could turn out pretty well for us(for a change!!)

| I would rather macnamara, burgess and long or wane over Rowley or any other coach who's name is in the hat due to getting teams to overachieve. Macnamara and wane both have shown their ability to build good consistent squads and an ability to develop youth and would be here for a long term project. Burgess and long would be a risk but the bigger the risk the bigger the payoff.
What I am against is us being a springboard into the NRL, if Holbrook won the gf on his 3rd year and went back to the NRL then we're back to square1 potentially. Its a short term vision that may bring us success but not sustained success, like many felt under Smith get that one gf and a few more would have followed.
I also don't think we're that terrible a prospect the team on paper is not as bad as their performances we have some young players to develop and an academy. Their job really is to get to the bottom of our inability to translate our resources into success and wane probably already knows that and I don't think Steve Mac would take too long to figure it out either.
You only have to look at football and the current trend of managers their. City Liverpool and nal have brought in managers and have changed to suit the manager bought into their vision and backed them. We need to think long and hard about our next coach and if we want to continue the merry-go-round every 2/3 years of a new coach and period of transition. Its a critical time for our younger players like thelis wrench Ashton these are important periods in their development and we are at risk of them not fulfilling their potential due to our own doing. If it means we appoint an interim coach for the foreseeable then so be it get the right man not just any man
