Just a thought tache - whos bright idea was it at the club to get a stop gap signing in a position where he wasn't comfortable on a four year deal? I am presuming it was only a small contract but still, four years seems a long time for a stop gap fill in. There are so many variables which could have gone wrong and whos to say the guy we had got lined up for 2012 would still be fit and in as good form.
I would have rather we spent the money on Johns as a stop gap for a season and then got the guy we had lined up in earlier.

It's a disgrace. He's not using capital letters at the start of his sentences and i think he's spelt woo wrong.
Sankeywarrior was probably right in his original description of him.

| He has been crap at 7 he's not got it the play there but at hooker he's a new player he makes more things happen with the ball in hand running at markers than when having time with the in half back role looking to open play with the right pass, get him at hooker.

| Monaghan is outstanding off a quick play-the-ball but not good enough at 9 from a 'normal' start. As a scrum-half, he is poor.
However, I would never ever question his professionalism or his effort. His defensive contribution is superb and he can individually create tries in certain situations.

| I am still not sure about Mathers. I am not saying he had a bad game but on a couple of occassions ie where Berrigan put the kick through and Mathers seemed to stall. There was another kick in the first half that eventually went out on the ten but Mathers was trying to shield it and one of the Hull players nearly gathered. I am not too convinced with his looping cut out passes that he seems to be throwing recently and think that we are going to get caught out there.
I thought that Monas in the second half was our best player. The interception pass for their first try was shocking though.

I agree about Mathers. Its a good job Riley was there supporting Mathers for the try Riley score. I don't think Mathers had enough about him to finish the move off.

| The thing about the interception is that had he taken a step or 2 less and passed slightly earlier, the ball is in our wingers hand on an overlap and we score. Thats how close these things are, a matter of inches turns you from hero to Zero. No one would have said it was a stupid pass had we scored off it, everyone would be crowing about how good it was.
He was trying to unlock a stubborn defence, the timing was slightly out it doesn't make it a disgrace.
His kicking game isn't the best accepted but kicking from 7 is a different skill from kicking from dummy half, a skill that needs to be learnt and unfortuntaley as he has played hooker all his life he is still learning.
Put him back to Hooker and give him a few games and we may see a better Monaghan that everyone wants to keep. How many want rid of Matt King now?

He threw out a ridiculous interception pass his kicking game was a complete disgrace we even lost yards on a simple kick to touch...??
He created nothing, thank God Matt king is well over 6 ft because he had to take a monaghan offload that hit his shoulder for Christ sake......
If all those people criticsising my post can show me something positive he did other than "tackling well" I'll have it, other wise stop being soft.....
this is an NRL scrum half that can not play scrum half never ever ever'" I agree with much of your post, and if we could send him home today, then I'd be made up, but to say he didn;t create anything is wrong.
In the first half he was the worst player on the pitch. His passing is dire (so much for fantastic coaching in the NRL), kicking is very poor (let Clarke and Mathers do this) and his decision making is way below average. His intercept was very poor, and it's not the first time we have seen it from him. The opposition can usually read him like a book.
In the 2nd, he was involved in everything good for that 10 minute spell.
He created Wood's try, sent Bridge through the gap on the last when Bridge kicked it, and started the move for Harrison's try. He also did a nice scoot and reverse pass for Anderson I think.
After that though he went back to being poor. When he plays off the cuff and doesn;t think about it, playing at pace he seems to do well. When he is at first of second receiver and has to organise and think about the game and what is the right thing to do, he is very weak IMO.
MOM for me had to be King or Mathers.

Monoghan made his reputation in the NRL as a 7. He was only switched to hooker to accommodate Matt Orford at Manly and left because of his ambition to play scrum half. I find it amazing for someone who has played at the top level in Australia in a pivotal position how little creativity the man possesses. He is just a machine who will continue to do the same play every time. He never tries anything different and the only times he looks good at scrum half is when he’s caught in possession and has to step his way through the defence.
Granted he did look much more settled at hooker yesterday and a much better player, but all in all he’s been a flop. I wouldn’t be sorry to see the back of him whatsoever. The guy hasn’t taken any sort of affinity to the club, town or fans and IMO we should be getting rid of him at the end of the season.

| Thought Monaghan had a fair game in the second half, playing at hooker he looked very impressive, gave away three cheap balls but created or started three tries, yet again his defencive effort was second to none and that is what may have sneaked him the MOM award.

Yep, can't argue with the fact that he looked a different player when he changed position, credit must go to Smith for making the many key positional changes he did, but I still don't fel he was anywhere near MOM.
When you have the likes of Riley, Mathers, King, Harrison etc. playing out of their skin with almost faultless displays, it is a bit disappointing, but then it is sponsors who select MOM and not necessarily experts.

| FOR THE PASS SEASON AND A HALF I HAVE BEEN ANNOYING POSTERS BY SAYING MONAS IS NO HALF BACK AND WE SHOULD PLAY HIM ACTING HALF.........I HOPE NOW SOME OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN.
WHAT A WASTE OF A SEASON AND A HALF....!
FOR PEATS SAKE.....I HOPE AFTER BUYING IN THREE HOOKERS TO PLAY OUT OF POSITION AS A SCRUM-HALF ON THE BOUNCE, THE CLUB MIGHT JUST HAVE LEARN SOMETHING.

Come on Mate I'm not Way off at all...... He was bobbins...He did improve in the second half i'm not blind to that but this guy is an NRL all star according to most on here..
those that are giving him big raps about his hooking display are they wanting mickey higham to miss the remainder of the season so we can have Clarke and Monaghan at hooker .......
and if So who is going to be our Scrum half because if its not Monaghan we dont have one at the club.....
and will people please stop banging on about a scrum halfs "Great Defence" half backs do not get noticed for tackling....
go on the wigan board and ask if anyone can rememember Andy Gregorys best defensive display and you'll probably get banned....

| Terrible first half, two mistakes stand out, the backwards kick to touch and the horrendously misjudged pass from which they scored.
But lets give the guy a break, he was brilliant second half and created a lot, yeah his offloading wasnt great but the sponsors liked what they saw!

| Another enigma.
Far far better from 9, at 7 he just stinks. Lets hope Briers is back next week because at times especially in the first half we lacked ambition and creativity. If so, I'd like to see Grix and Briers at 6 and 7, Clarke 9 and Monaghan rotating with Clarke.

| Negative negative.
Monas wasnt great in the first half. Neither he nor anyone else in the team found it easy to break a resolute Hull defence.
Second half, he was the catalyst that totally changed the pace of our attack and fully deserved man of the match.
We must have the most negative fans in the league who always need at least one player to have a go at.
