In much the same way as the Warrington Guardian, I think their plan is to make the site so unbearable with ads and pop-ups that you end up taking out a subscription to go ad-free. However, I am not (and never will be) willing to pay subscriptions for message boards or news sites, so my two options are to either suffer on or give up. At the moment it's still the former, but I admit that my patience is being sorely tested.

Yeah, I've tried using an ad blocker before, but that proved equally frustrating, as I was forever getting pop-ups saying 'we see you are using an ad blocker, blah blah...'.

This is not just an Ad problem. Most websites have ads. This site is in need of some action. You would have to work hard to find a site slower than this.

I use one called Umbra.

I have subscribed and it is much, much better without ads in terms of speed and usability. I've had a problem quoting other users today but I think that might be a more general problem.

Wolfweb had the extra bonus feature of tracking cookies/IP which meant you could see when people used duplicate usernames, because it put their other account name in brackets after their user name. I'm sure keith the beef/wrongly accused had a few burner account names on there!

It’s in a browser format. Many of us don’t use a laptop to view the site.
I for one just flick on now and agin and check it out on my iOS phone.

At this time I’m having to scroll side to side to try and read the posts.
It’s got to the point I speed scan half the post and guest what the other side might say.

The rendering seems OK on my phone just the delays in content appearing and delays from pressing a button and something happening.

I've just installed AdGuard and it has transformed the usage.

How is the posting hanging issue now guys? We've put a couple of fixes in and hope that it is now resolved. We continue working hard to make the site more usable, please bear with us, it's not a quick fix.

It is better than it was but still the slowest site (by some way) that I use. It wasn't always like this. It would be interesting to compare the stats on numbers using the site over the last few years.
