| Super League on Sky is great. They have brought in "All The Tries" recently, which was needed; "Boots'N'All" is a very good programme, "Super Men" has been a good show and is better now it's an hour. ("NRL Full Time" is an hour long in Aus though and is cut to ribbons to make it <30mins on Sky which makes it quite unfulfilling!).
However, it's got quite a few things wrong with it when the live games are on.
The insistance Sky have in showing replays of f?ck all while the game is going on is infuriating. In the opening minutes of the Pie-Wire game on Friday there was a slow-motion replay of two ugly birds in the crowd jumping up in the act of celebrating something that ended up not being a try (therefore it was an utterly pointless replay to show); this was whilst the game was going on and on the audio the crowd roared and Stevo went "ooah look at that" - well i couldn't look at it because of the stupid replay. Or there will be a suspicion of a knock-on at the ptb on tackle one and during tackles two or three there will be a replay of this incident and again there will be a huge roar from the crowd as Roby (for example) is breaking twenty metres up-field - yet we miss that as we see yet another replay. It happens a dozen times a game, at least!
The commentary is quite frankly ridiuclous at times.
The things Stevo comes out with are laughable "they realise the blind side is open here and will utilize it on this play" - it doesn't happen. And the "banter" between Eddie and Stevo is not funny and hasn't been for ten years. He's a complete dinosaur when it comes to his opinions too. Is he past the age of retirement? because he needs to retire now!
Phil Clarke needs to be left at home when Wigan are on. Other than that he's okay[-ish.
Then there's Eddie (point of the thread). Eddie only talks about the negative in everything. Anyting that happens he questions in the negative light. It's not good to hear (ironic as i'm doing that right now!). And he still goes on about rules that came in years ago as if they're a new thing and are still contentious. I still don't think he can get his head around the momentum rule, everytime it's like it's the first time he's ever heard of it. Then during the Saints-Leeds game on Sunday, what he said to Brian Carney was out of order.
There are people there who work for Super League on Sky who are all capable of doing the whole thing without Eddie and Stevo now. They were good for a time but that time is up.

| Actually, I think the critics and the defenders of SKY are being too simplistic. The real problem - ironically, given they are always crying out for it - is a lack of consistency. At times, the coverage is superb and they get it spot on. To say Eddie and Stevo don't know the game well enough is farcical given how many games they watch! But at times they do come out with absolute nonsense. A very simple example was when Briers found touch from kickoff on Friday. Eddie seemed astonished Lee had kicked it instead of Hodgson - how could he not know Lee takes nearly all the kickoffs?!

| I'm surprised to hear such praise for Clare Balding in this particular thread considering the appalling way she put down Brian Noble a couple of years ago for his pronunciation of a word ("calibre", I think) at our cup semi against Catalans.
Eddie's comment to Brian Carney wasn't necessary but the man has rugby league in his blood which Clare does not.
Stevo is the most annoying for me. At a time of record viewing figures he insists on looking for unnecessary controversy which comes across badly to the viewing public.
Whilst Phil is an intelligent member of the Sky team his pro-Wigan stance isn't acceptable. He could learn a few things from Gary Neville who has been impressive in his impartial approach to football commentary (& that's from a Liverpool fan!).
Very impressed with Jon Wells & Brian Carney.

| Carney, Wells, McDermott and O'Connor are bearable. Get rid of the other 3. It amazes me how Eddie keeps his job when he manages to mistake players on regular occurrences.

I couldn't have hated a player more than I did RatBoy "Feed the Goat" Chuckle while he was playing the game. What a tw@! But watching him now on Sky, he is by far the best footy pundit there is.
Brian Carney is brilliant. Jon Wells has impressed me. And I do like Barry and Terry too.

| Well Eddie has been a professional broadcaster for over 30 years Carney has been a rugby player and got a degree (but not in broadcasting) Eddie was on Radio Merseyside for years before he went to Rugby League and probably if you work with muppets long enough you become one!! as the rest of the Sky team are.

| O'Connor is an imbecile. He has never said or done anything of value apart from that time he pointed at Neil Cowie when the Fletch was calling him a fat Josh Charnley.

That is my view as well. McDermott is not much better, he is a like a fatter, more stupid Paul Cullen and doesn't really say anything incisive.
Like people have said, Clarke is the best if he could stop being a Wiganophile.

I can just picture the scene.
The credits roll, and the producer says into Slim's earpiece "cut to Slim"
Slim "Good evening, and welcome to tonight's match. Joining me in the commentary box, will be that Pie Eating Know Nowt, Odemwingie, who'll be spouting his usual b0ll0x, and touchside will be Rogues Gallery, but don't expect input from him. Somebody asked him a question about the Huddersfield game, on a well known website, and he hasn't come up with an answer, over a month later!.

I seem to recall we were calling him a fat Bobbie Goulding, rather than a fat 80s lesbian.

Maybe, maybe not.
May I humbly suggest that you now roll over, and stop taking all the bedclothes away from Mr Gallery, there's a good chap. I think there's a bit of a "love-in" going on, eh?

| during commentary Wiggy belts out that Warrington Last won at wigan in 1973 (yes he said "seventy three"icon_wink.gif and then they lost the next 17 consecutive matches until they won at the DW in 2000 and something....
Now He has obviously misread 1993 for 1973 but both cretins then go on about it as fact and Stevo says well that period was wigans best ever so its hardly suprising..
but as a proud Wire fan of the 80's we had one of if not the best record against the pie crusters at central park than anyone else and these two idiots just wipe it out...you'd think when Wigan lost two league games all year in 1987 both to us, and infact only lose at central park twice once to us and once to the Touring Aussie test side its worth getting right.

I picked up on that, too. The thing is, previously they've got it right - with Eddie himself saying that Wire have one of the better records against Wigan especially through the 80s.
Rule #1 of being a sports journalist, get your facts right, or you're likely to upset an entire fanbase or two (or more). I'm afraid Eddie failed big time on that one.

You have highlighted the fundamental flaw in Sky's structure. Hemming's role is to commentate on the games, summarising (stats, opinion, reviewing plays) is by the other party. Hemmings seemingly wants to cross both spheres, which leads to both parties talking over each other. The white noise is made worse when you factor in the additional summarisers. At best it is farcical, in reality it is rank amateur.

That you can tell, when you watch any match he commentates.
He gets genuinely passionate, unlike the Sky muppets who just shout names, worn out slogans like T-R-Y and any 'controversial' (read: wrong) opinion to basically keep doing what they think Sky's coverage is 'renowned' for.
Sky has done so much for the game, and Eddie and Stevo I'm afraid must think they go hand in glove with all those good things. They don't.
I live in a college with 56 other lads and many don't watch RL. If I'm watching a game, casual observers just take the P155 at how idiotic the commentary is, I think it's fair to say it means a few of them don't take our sport seriously.
And don't get me started on Eddie's talent of naming players. Look at Friday, Joel goes in to score and we get 'MICHAEL MONAGHAN, MICHAEL MONAGHAAAAAN'.
End of a bell as are the rest of the 'team', with the exception of Carney and Wells really.
